I was high risk by the time we "finally" conceived... and then found out we were carrying twins. I read as much as I could while in my early stages, regarding high risk and things to do to help the embryo(s). If I can offer one tip or piece of advice.... relax!

If you ever want to chat off the board, please feel free to email me; I remember sitting down for literally an hour when we found out we were pregnant, thinking "what if this, what if that" and in the long run, worrying will not help at all. I remember stressing about money, their health, my health, etc. and really in the long run things worked out the way they were supposed to work out (even though it was not the way I wanted it to work out).

Sending you a hug and hoping it helps!

Must be meant to be! It is totally normal to have feelings that are all over the place and it takes some time to sink in. Ivillage used to have some really great pregnancy/expecting boards where I used to find a lot of support. And you always have all of us!

I have been super nauseous... Are there a certain type of cracker that works better then others? Was really bad all night. Every time I moved it seemed to make it worse.

I just had a piece of toast. 1 piece, I am now beyond full and feel sick. Does that even make sense?

Also what about tylenol or advil? The OBGYN wont tell me anything until I see them on the 21st.

Should I go by pre-natal vitamins?

And why are my hands and feet so clammy and hot? then cold? then hot?? All night long and all monring as well...

Tylenol yes, Advil no. The joys of being pregnant mean you don't get the good stuff... even cold medicines ;(

I ate a lot of dum dum suckers when I was pregnant. Just do extra brushing because of the sugar.

I couldn't tolerate prenates so I got to eat 2 Flintstones :) Yay me.

Eat small meals and space them out. Crackers are good - whatever settles your stomach.

8 weeks? Wow. Can you squeak into your regular doctor just to get some general info? Also, highly recommend the 'What to Expect' book as it is invaluable to first time moms :)

They gave me some pills to take.

The worst time for me was upon waking and no cracker could cure it. I would vomit every morning (hence the pills to control it).

Nobody told me about taking kids chewable so I choked down a few of the prenatals when I could, but basicly just tried to eat healthy and limit extra sugar and prepared foods and soda.

Be careful about allowing yourself to get too hungry. ALWAYS have something to snack on, whatever you can tolerate. Drink lots of water.
Sometimes you'll feel so full then BAM! You are so starving you can't handle it!

Start checking the thrift stores and Kohls sales racks for clothing. If you are like me, you won;t need to wear "maternity" clothes for a while. Loose clothing in your closet would do fine for a while. Maternity clothing is expensive! I bought alot of my stuff at Walmart and every single piece FELL APART within one month of purchasing it. I even washed on gentle. I had to take back everything and yes they did refund my money!

Even had to pull on the side of the road on the way to the hospital to deliver him to throw up!!!

Anything with ginger will help settle your stomach (ginger ale, gingerbread, ginger snaps, ginger pills)

Also, I had the best luck with sweet tea (southern sweet). The tanin in the tea will ease nausea.

I could not take prenatal vitamins because of the iron (it makes me sick) so they had me take 2 Flintstones (with extra calcium) everyday instead. Dr. said they had the same stuff as the prenatals and were tons cheaper. (taste better too)

Good Luck,

Marsha

My first pregnancy I was nauseous first 3 months, eating plain saltine crackers and ginger ale. Even the smell of cooking meat made me vomit!! However, did not take any OTC meds, pharma drugs, alcohol, etc., during all my pregnancies. I did take pre-natal vitamins & fish oil good for their developing brain. Eat lots of fruits & veggies. Good luck with your pregnancy and don't worry!
