was just watching the Today Show and one congressman commented that the details are not yet available because the bill is still being written. So basically I am not sure what bill "passed" the House or why people are so excited? I am not aware of how this bill will affect my family when it passes the Senate, as there are not enough details for me to read. I do know that they are pointing out some great benefits, however, I don't know how much taxes will increase in order for some families to receive the benefits.

I guess my opinion is that I don't have enough information... if my family will gain something from a bill such as this one, what will we have to pay into the system; and in the long run, will we come out ahead or in the red every month?

I try to make informed decisions but I have to tell you, it is hard to figure out what is going on in this matter!

this is what happens by September 22, 2010:

* Companies will be barred from lifetime dollar limits on coverage. This means that no longer will insurance companies be able to tell a cancer patient, "Sorry, you've used up your $30,000. Would you like the rest of your treatment to be cash or credit card?"

* Companies will be barred from canceling policies for the sick (which sadly does happen, even though you've been paying your part) except for in the cases of fraud.

* Medicare gap will being to narrow. Seniors who've already spent at least $2,830 will get a $250 rebate.

* Insurance companies will no longer be able to deny coverage to children with pre-existing conditions. So if your son has chronic asthma, the days of the insurance company slamming the door in your face are over.

* Dependent children will have coverage until the age of 26.

* Small businesses (up to 25 employees) will receive a tax credit to obtain and maintain coverage for their employees. So those mom and pop stores that want to take care of their loyal employees and their families can do so and get immediate tax relief for it.

Edited...

I think I am still missing something, I am trying to figure out how the bill will help the average American family in costs, or at least what it is going to cost our family. In other words, I think we are just going to have to start buying insurance or pay the fine... it does not look like there is any help for the cost of it for our family. I thought I saw something that families making less than $88,000.00 per year might get help with paying for insurance.

I FEAR that the bill will only cost my family and that we won't see any benefits at all. I don't have any information on how much the fine will be or if that will be less than insurance... in which case we will have no choice but to pay the fine because we cannot get affordable insurance which means the bill does not help the average American family at all.

Just my opinion based on NOT having enough information at this point in time.

ETA: I was not looking for any help in researching insurance for my family... I am intelligent enough to "shop" for health insurance every 3 - 6 months; we are not eligible for CHIP but I do insure my children out-of-pocket (an after tax cost). I am not a bad person just because I cannot afford health insurance :) 4|3|The not so "glowing" report of the bill|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|11:07:49|03/23/2010|

Unprecedented and Unconstitutional

The federal government has never required all Americans to buy any good or service. An individual mandate to enter into a contract with or buy a particular product from a private party, with tax penalties to enforce it, is unprecedented and flies in the face of our founding principles and a reasonable reading of judicial precedent. Nowhere in the Constitution is Congress given the power to mandate that an individual enter into a contract with a private party or purchase a good or service and no decision or present doctrine of the Supreme Court justifies such a claim of power.

What Supporters of ObamaCare Will Tell You

The proponents of expansive federal power hang their hat on the "Commerce Clause" of the constitution (Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3) for Congress's authority to mandate health care insurance for citizens. Supporters of the federal individual mandate argue that, under its power to "regulate commerce...among the several states," Congress may regulate the doing of nothing at all. In other words, because Congress has the power to regulate business between the states, it must have the authority to demand it from individuals. If this mandate is allowed to stand, it would be the first use of the Commerce Clause to universally mandate an activity by all citizens of the United States.

The most common argument used to justify a federal mandate to purchase health insurance is the talking point that states are allowed to force individuals to buy car insurance before they are allowed to drive. However, there is a fundamental constitutional difference between the inherent police powers of the states and the enumerated powers of the national government—not to mention that driving is a voluntary activity. You don't have to have auto insurance if you don't drive a car or don’t drive on state roads, and states require drivers to maintain auto insurance only to cover injuries to others—not themselves like an individual mandate would do. The analogy between a state mandating auto insurance for those who drive and mandatory health insurance for all is flawed at best.

A Dangerous Precedent

Just how far does this abuse of power extend? If Congress can impose a health-insurance mandate, then there is no limit to what Congress can do, and the Constitution's limits on congressional power will have essentially been eliminated. Heritage legal scholar Todd Gaziano persuasively argues that given the federal government’s recent interest in bailing out the auto industry, Congress could– relying on the very argument it is using to mandate health care purchases— require every American to buy a new Chevy Impala every year to boost sales at Government Motors, or a pay a "tax" equivalent to its blue book value.

There are countless of reasons to hate ObamaCare, yet the issue over the constitutionality of the mandate has yet to receive serious consideration. Our Founding Fathers intentionally outlined limited powers for Congress and the federal government in the Constitution, and it would be good to look back to America’s first principles to guide us on health reform.

"Within six months of enactment of the bill - or by the end of September - consumers should notice some changes. Among them, insurers would be required to keep young adults as beneficiaries on their parents' health plans until they turn 26, and companies would no longer be allowed to deny coverage to sick children.

Other changes would not kick in until 2014. - Heritage Foundation

By then, most Americans will for the first time be required to carry health insurance - either through an employer, through a government program or by buying it for themselves. Those who refuse will face penalties from the IRS." - Drudge Report

I know that one way they say it 'balances' the budget is student loans will are federally funded will not be run by the gov't and not a third party. That according to them is supposed to 'save' 6 billion dollars a year. Of course they run programs so well NOT. In 2200 pages I'm terrified of what else is hidden and what back door deals have been made to push this through. It will fund abortion. Obama promised an executive order against it BUT the reality is two fold. First he can take that order back the next day, the next week or the next president can. AND in the court of law the legislation holds up his executive order has no meaning.

If it'll help prevent an unnecessary death as what happened w/my sister, then I'll consider it to be productive & valuable.
My sister unexpectedly passed away in 2003 of a massive heart attack which I believe was totally senseless & could've been prevented. Even the coroner stated this. She had high blood pressure & a heart condition, both completely treatable w/meds. She'd had meds for both but when she no longer had health insurance, she couldn't afford to go to a dr. to get those med refills renewed & could no longer afford those meds. She worked 40+ hrs. a week but couldn't get insurance thru her employer cuz the employer didn't offer it. And because she worked 40 hrs. a week, she made too much money to qualify for any other type of medical assistance. :(
My feeling is if this country can afford to send billions of dollars to other countries, then by golly it can afford to help w/medical coverage for people right here!
