9 0|0|Any shrub removal experts out there?|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|18:16:31|03/17/2010|

I have 3 shrubs that are all but dead & I want them gone! LOL I dumped a pail of water on each to soak in (shouldn't have had to w/the spring thaw moisture) & tried using the shovel 1st to dig them up w/no luck. Then I tied a good, tough & thick rope around a couple of them, tied the other end to the back of my van & tried pulling them out. I swear they must be cemented in! About all I accomplished was pulling off most of the branches off of 1 & busting the rope on the 2nd! LOL
Any ideas, PLEASE, on how to get them out of there short of using a log chain & tractor??? LOL
Thanks! :)

1|1|If they really are dead, you can dig down below the dirt line, and cut them off below ground level...we had to do that with two dead evergreen shrubs in our front yard years ago....I think the root system is so deep and spread out, it is a horrid chore to get them out by the roots....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|18:25:37|03/17/2010|

2|2|What did you use to cut them off with, below the dirt line? |maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|19:08:01|03/17/2010|

I'd think a chain saw would be a little difficult to use in a hole w/all that dirt around the shrub's underground stem. LOL

5|5|The sawzall just makes it go faster....if you have a handsaw with a strong, longer blade that should work, just cut out the trunk and main roots the best you can....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|22:02:17|03/17/2010|

8|8|It think it's called Stump Rot ?|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|09:18:46|03/18/2010|

My parents used that stuff one time on a tree stump. It became my mom's mission to get rid of it, chopping away at it periodically w/an ax & adding more Stump Rot, to break it down faster. LOL
The thing is, if I use something like the Stump Rot it might contaminate the soil so I wouldn't be able to plant something else in the same location for a few yrs., kwim? I know it wouldn't be anymore shrubs or bushes as I don't like that stuff too close to the foundation of the house, but I was thinking of some flowers....
