Monday - Friday Delivery

Hope it starts soon. Perhaps we will finally have better mail service.

They also will close around 150 more Post Offices and go to more Kiosks. 1|1|they are soo wasteful and I think..|Skaytes|skaytez@gmail.com|10:05:01|03/02/2010|

this could be avoided if it weren't so bad with the wastefulness (is that a word?!lol) Our small PO closes from 12;30p to 1:30p..stupid of them as they lose TONS of business doing that. They have several employees so why don't they rotate them for lunch hour? I have been there soo many times I can't count that business people ..and just regular folks..are sooo mad as they had tons to mail on their lunch hour yet they go there and find they can't do it. Wonder how much money per day/week they lose just at our small PO doing that. Would be interesting to know.

Also they route all our mail to larger cities to be delivered. If I mail something at our small PO to go to someone or a business here in town, they send it 2 hrs away to be sorted and then BACK to this PO before delivering. Soo..instead of same or at worst next day delivery, it could be several days before it gets to that business/person. You have to deliver it yourself if it needs to be delivered pretty quickly. I know they do the same at other PO's here as well. Think of all the extra, time, gas, manpower etc it takes to do that. They already have "in town" and "out of town" mailboxes so that is a 'no brainer' on sorting the intown/out of town mail. Drive me nuts to see sooo much waste!

They need to hire a dedicated 'hard core' couponer to show them how to save money and do things right! lol! 2|1|Is this for sure? Nothing on the news here that I have seen, but I was not watching last night. I know they have baan talking about it for a while, but thats all they had done, talked.|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|11:11:50|03/02/2010|

Comcast.net:

"The USPS is considering dropping Saturday home delivery as it seeks to fend off massive financial losses. The U.S. Postal Service is increasing the pressure for dropping Saturday home delivery as it seeks to fend off massive financial losses. Postmaster General John Potter, who has a speech set for later Tuesday on the future of his agency, will also raise the likelihood of higher postage rates."

However, it states that...

"The Postal Service has previously proposed eliminating delivery six days a week, but got a cold reception in Congress. The renewed effort comes with a series of consultant reports supporting that idea, as well as changes in the work force and the number of offices"

Perhaps I am not reading it correctly? I don't see that is it a done deal yet 5|3|I can't find anything saying it was final. Just that they are kinda putting it back out there.|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|11:22:28|03/02/2010|

but it certainly is not confirmed from what I read, too. 10|1|How would you feel about M-F mail delivery, if it happens?|Arizona|vbj48@cox.net|12:44:24|03/02/2010|

Polls I saw this morning 80% okay with M-F. 20% opposed.

What I don't understand is why would the postal rates increase if they are cutting costs.
That doesn't make sense to me. 11|2|Because they are that much in dept It doesn't matter to me if I get mail on sat or not it isn't like you won't get it at all lol I just feel for those who will be loosing their jobs|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|13:07:13|03/02/2010|

My reasoning behind this is all those people that work that can't make it to the post office because of their own work hours.

"Women should not have children after 35. Thirty-five children are enough." - anonymous (Only 28 to GO!) 13|4|But did it say the po itself would be closed on sat or just that they would not deliver ob sat?|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|13:26:43|03/02/2010|

14|1|They Can't Deliver the Mail in 6 Days - What a Mess This Could Be!!|Geri|geristiber@gmail.com|13:32:15|03/02/2010|

NT 15|2|I don't think it will be a mess. I think don't think it could get a whole lot worse. I think we will just get a little more mail somedays then we would have if it were delivered 6 days a week. They should keep it open on Saturdays for people that work all week, unless they will keep POs open but just not deliver.|RobinsCrazyWorld|robinmarie72@gmail.com|13:42:28|03/02/2010|

But I would think that regular businesses would want their mail delivered M-F since lots are closed on Saturday.

They did say in the article that they would be installing more Kiosks. You can do most any postal business at those machines since they are available 24 hours per day.

In fact, I have noticed that they already have put several more of those units in our local post offices. So, maybe they are preparing.
