5|2|No, not a Dell, and considering the punch line, I'm amazed it runs this well|mfrs|mfrs.sv.ca@gmail.com|22:15:52|03/01/2010|
.. 4|1|Hint: I got 4 rebates from Tiger Direct|mfrs|mfrs.sv.ca@gmail.com|22:14:18|03/01/2010|
so the total cost was about $250 + monitor (so no, not a laptop) and it's been running nonstop, it seems, since 2005. 6|1|How about HP or Compaq?|lwhphd|loretta.harvey.phd@verizon.net|22:21:43|03/01/2010|
2005? Hard to guess. 7|1|Maybe Acer or Asus?|lwhphd|loretta.harvey.phd@verizon.net|22:23:31|03/01/2010|
I have heard great things about their netbooks! 8|1| ... or MAYBE a SONY VAIO|lwhphd|loretta.harvey.phd@verizon.net|22:24:37|03/01/2010|

what does one do with a barebone system? And why don't I need the Excedrin myself? 12|2|4-slice toaster, that is|mfrs|mfrs.sv.ca@gmail.com|22:34:46|03/01/2010|

I don't think Mac used my OS in 2005--and I do have a Shuttle.
16|1|Hint for the second part: I did not burn my thumbs, or get cut, or lose any screws|mfrs|mfrs.sv.ca@gmail.com|23:06:38|03/01/2010|
but I did have to bribe my sysadmin at work with a pizza so she'd 'be available.'

19|1|I'll be off for a bit--meanwhile, Lisa is really, really close|mfrs|mfrs.sv.ca@gmail.com|23:34:03|03/01/2010|
and I hope she's considering alternative approaches to computers. If she can fix computers, then she can do what I did. 23|1|Another hint: I hang out with a lot of engineers and sometimes want to walk the walk, not just talk the talk|mfrs|mfrs.sv.ca@gmail.com|01:38:09|03/02/2010|
so there's a really down and dirty way to get a computer up and running, with one particular operating system. 24|2|Lenox or Alien|crenchen|crenchen@aol.com|09:28:50|03/02/2010|

I run Ubuntu 9.10, though I used to run Fedora 4. I assembled the computer myself! I've had more trouble assembling furniture from Ikea.
33|2|Thanks Marcia. Very cool raok. I will have to look into this. It sounds like something I would be very interested in learning how to do. |Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|13:02:48|03/02/2010|

If there's a Walgreens near you check the March coupon leaflet for a possible $4 store coupon to stack. I enjoyed playing, too.
