We are trying to have a nice vacation with our kids, youngest are 6 and 7, and are going to stay with friend in Florida this July. We will have to rent a car, but our housing will be free (we will buy the food for the days we are there, etc) but will spend the day at Disney.......or if someone know a better place to bring the kids at this age for the day.......we are staying1.5 hours from Orlando.........I would love to hear opinions of the best place to spend the day while in Florida....
thanks bunches
Nicole 1|1|Are you just going to Disney for the day? And where in FL are you staying with friends....there are some really awesome places to go that cost very little or are free to the public...also, you have to make a day of going to the beach, I would recommend the Daytona area if you are staying on the east side of Daytona...the beaches are softer and prettier on the east coast of FL :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|09:54:52|02/02/2010|

.......I just know it is one and half hours to get to Orlando, lol
I thought Disney World being the top choice, but am not sure if their is somewhere "better" we could bring them instead of Disney......My 7 year old (Jenna) said Mickey Mouse is for babies, LOL so i don't know if she is too "old" for Disneyworld.........
cheap excursions are good too.... 3|1|okay, found out, we are staying in Barefoot Bay, FL|IceeeeN|IceeeeN@aol.com|11:00:26|02/02/2010|

I am also visiting Florida next month as well........actually just port canaveral, lol 7|1|Ah, youre already staying on the east coast of FL, excellent, much nicer beaches imho...plan a beach day for sure! Also, if I remember correctly there are several light house state parks down that way....which are usually free or really cheap (maybe a couple bucks for parking).....do some searching on those. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|12:35:07|02/02/2010|

We did Busch Gardens, Sea World & Disney Animal Kingdom. My DD is 11 (10 then) and loved them all, espcially when we got to ride the river ride @ Busch Gardens several times and got soaking wet. If you are there for more than one day, you should look look into the Park Hopper passes at Disney, you can visit all 5 parks and you have the entire year to use them (say you go now and again later in the year, you already have passes). Dont forget, Disney is doing the Donate a Day, Get a Day or whatever they are calling that, so you might want to look into that. HTH's some!

off to check them out. After all this, I am debating on just getting a cheap hotel in Orlando, then i won't have to rent a car, and get the pass to do a few parks instead of just one.........I am a mess right now. I think we found a good deal I would prefer instead of staying in a 3 br home with 4 of us, and 4 of them (their youngest are 4 and 6) Since we are going away next month (no kids) I am trying to be frugal, lol

12|2|Check out tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews.....and you can do price comparisons from there too with several major booking sites :) |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|15:55:31|02/02/2010|

10|1|We prefer Universal Studios and Sea World over Disney |ncbrunet|ncbrunet@aol.com|14:45:14|02/02/2010|

Both are ALOT cheaper than Disney too.

Universal has 2 parks, one is Nick. based (Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, Spongebob, etc) and the other is Marvel Hero (Hulk, Spiderman, Capt America, etc).

Sea World can definitely be done in 1 day. Lots of animal interaction places, touch tanks, etc and shows. We go there for a day every time we are in the Orlando area.

If you are going to be on the east coast, you may want to go to Cape Canveral/Kennedy (space shuttle). We have gone a few times and always have a good time exploring there. Lots of interavtive things for the kids (of all ages, as DH spends as much time playing as DS).

HTH

you can get 1 ticket per family member just vouleenteer my family did this sat and we had a blast my daughter is 7 kids 6 and up can voleenteer this will save you lots of money.

as for hotel stay at a hotel that offers free kids stays and free breakfast they may be a few miles from disneyland or disney world but they offer free shuttles.

never go into the park hugrey eat a very good breakfast befor you enter and take a bag with some healthy snacks my daughter has food allergeys and i have ever been turned away for taking snacks into the park,my family usualy skips lunch as we are nibbling on snacks ,it also helps not to get started drinking soda we refrain to water and jucie only soda makes you drink more....we usually get a very good dinner outside of disneyland and then if we go back after that, plan befor you go a detailed list and stick to it!!

treasts inside disneyland they get $20 from me to spend any way they please they can earn money befor we go if they want more spending money that means coton candy, toy hat ect.....

look for savings on resturants savings befor you go and now how to get ther befor you book your hotel!!! 14|1|definitely can bring food into Disney|msallen|m-sallen@juno.com|22:11:47|02/02/2010|

We went to WDW in Feb 2008 and brought a cooler in each day with our lunch. They do search bags as you enter, but no one ever said a word to us about the food. Had a stroller, so we didn't have to tote it around. A backpack stuffed with PBJ, granola bars, and frozen water bottles would be an asset. The food is SO expensive! We ate dinner there a couple of times, but tried to bring as much along as we could. It also saves you having to wait in lines (again!) at mealtimes. 15|2|you can also...|jdlaurie|savethosepennies@aol.com|23:37:40|02/02/2010|

refill your water bottle at a public water fountain. Why buy the water if you have an empty bottle refill it! Someone brought this to my attention last time we were there

I also got much better deals arranging my plans with a person on the phone. They are able to throw in extra stuff and offer special discounts you might not see on the websites when planning a trip. Like inexpensive character breakfasts, etc. If you are going for a birthday or special event, make sure you mention it. My boss told me this... his kids have been added to the parades, etc. when they mention special events. Ask if there is anything the kids can be part of.

Same goes for all attractions here... I got a much better deal for Seaworld as well when talking to a person on the phone. Who would have thought!

First, i want to thank all my friends here at Refundsweepers to take the time to let me know so many details. I must admit, it is quite overwelming looking into this, soooo many details and i want to find the best deal. I am narrowing down my list of "wants" as in, which parks we will visit as a definite............I am going to AAA to see if they can help me find the best deal for our family!!! Thank you all, I am very lucky to be a part of this board

Nicole 17|2|You can take drinks in, but they have to be in a bottle. They will confiscate canned drinks, we found this out the hard way. lol Have fun!!|jen_ron|bugsmamma@earthlink.net|10:42:44|02/03/2010|
