i was in the store today and i got quite a bit 46 items 5 of them large things like soda and water but i didnt use a lot of coupons though so i would not have held the line up any longer than the next person but anywhooo the store was packed we are expecting a huge snow storm they had very few lines open so i got in an express lane and someone asked me if i was gonna go thur the line i said yes they got upset even though their were other people behind me and they would have to wait thur them also but so she smarted off to me and i replied simply that time is the most valuable thing we have and my time is just as valueable to me as hers was to her...now mind you i would have let in front of me if she had been polite and i had been in back of the line but she was very snooty and uppity i know some of you wont agree with me but does anyone see my point of view here? i may not have a lot of money or a career but my life is still very demanding and stressful

I think it is also unfair to the people standing in line that may only have a couple items they want to buy...

1-you just succesfully po'd the rest of the people in line-as a cashier....you just made my day he&*()() cause they will take it out on me
2-if 1 of them complains to the fe mgr about the cashier taking you(and the cashier can not tell you no)...the cashier can get written up/yelled at....it is a fine line on handling customers that do that...
3-if you are expecting snow....and everyone was shopping...does it mean only your time was important?
hate to sound harsh...but as a cashier this is a SORE subject.....J

That has happened to me many times - I've had a full cart & was approaching the check-outs or have been at the end of a long line w/a full cart when a cashier in the Express Lane has summoned me/others over to help speed things along & reduce the long lines by other check-outs. If I'd been summoned over to the Express Lane, however, & people started lining up behind me & got snippy, I can then certainly see your point & I wouldn't have any qualms about being in that lane w/my full cart. Otherwise, I'm sorry as no, I wouldn't intentionally go into the Express Lane of my own accord w/a cart filled w/more than the limit allowed. ;) I, too, have needed to make a quick run in/out w/just a couple/few items & would have been a little annoyed if I'd seen someone w/a full cart intentionally go over to that lane w/out being summoned by the cashier to do so.
No offense as I just wanted to explain my answer. :)

Often I will let 1-2 people ahead of me as I am emptying my cart, but at that point I feel like I have just as much of a right to be in the fast line as the next person. I am always polite to the people around me and to the cashier.
I personally would never enter a quick line with a lot of items unless it was the only line open OR if I was called over by a cashier (have had that happen on occasion too, as several of the cashiers are friends).
JMHO, but I think you were in the wrong and maybe you kind of knew it and that is why you asked for opinions? Let it all go and just get into the other lane next time. V.

11|4|I use to work for Wallyworld myself and I would say it's okay if a cashier in the express lane calls you over that is fine, but if not, then you should go to the regular registers. You said tough cause you're in a hurry, my thing is that if you're in such a hurry, you wouldn't be buying more than 20 items. I HATE the express lane when I have to work it. People never read the sign or say they don't see it. If you were to of come into my line I would have told you it was express and you would to go to another line especially if others are behind you. If there were others behind or in front of you with more than what they were supposed to have I would have ask them to go to another line. Out stores express lane is 12 items or less, now I will take people that have 15 to 20 items if there is no one else in line. I figure I will have them rung up before someone comes in line with the right amount and no harm is done. If the store is really busy and I will go out and get someone with a cart that looks like it may have less than 20 and take them. Also express lanes are usually cash only lanes and it really sucks when people check out in them and then write a check. That holds up the line a little longer. Usually at the store I work at if you are on the express and there are a couple of people in each line but not in your line then we will help bag at one of the other registers. So I do agree with everyone else, express is express period and there for people who are only buying a few items. Everyone's time is important to them but if you have time to shop for 45 items then you have time to wait in line and have them rung up.

I have to say I only use that line on limited occassions and never more than the limit....There have been times when a cashier will see me standing at the end of the line and they are empty so I've been called over and honestly...I felt uncomfortable even then....
I think personally for me, it's not just about looking like I'm being inconsiderate...but I feel that people will think I don't know how to read or follow directions....(and I'm NOT implying this situation to you) it's just how I personally think people will think of me if I went into an express lane with a bunch of groceries....
Always keep this in mind....if everyone acted as you had regarding the groceries....there would be no express lines, emergency rooms, etc......society, businesses, etc put rules and policies in place to avoid chaos and confusion....when people deliberately break those policies and/or rules then there is bound to be chaos, anger, etc....(I guess that's my criminal justice major talking)...but if you really think about it, it makes sense...whether it be something as simple as a grocery line or something as big as government....
And that's my thoughts for the night.

as to things they bought..or did.....just days after posting they didnt have money to pay bills..ect......and ive helped a couple...of members..that didnt even have it in them to say a simple
thank you.....and i know others have seen and thought the same way......but..they just never said anything ,for thinking someone would flame them.....
now ill shut up and let the flaming start.......sorry to get on the soapbox.....but sometimes i think things are just uncalled for......

Took me about 35 minutes to get out of there and there was just 2 people ahead of me. The express line was empty with just 1 or 2 people going it it occassionally while I was waiting. I had about 25 items in my cart and I really didn't want to piss anyone off so I waited in the line. I just wish they would or could have opened up another line. Carol

I wasnt being rude today i wasnt the only one in that line with more than 20 items i dont know what they told the other people i didnt ask i was just happy to get in line i just happened to be the one that was at the end of that line that had more than 20 items and yeah i guess it did bother me that it was ok for someone else to get by with it and i got singled out .. i thought i was among friends here and i dont care who u are u ocassionaly break the rules of morals with white lies to keep from hurting someone's feelings or going that 5 miles over the speed limit no one is perfect and i in now way claim to be.. Jesus is the only perfect person i know and i thank him daily for his salavation,forgiveness and blessings. i will not reply to this thread again hopefully this will die down i guess someone has to cause the drama around here lol this week it was me for my first and last time...

I've done it. Sometimes it is the only option available. Is it fair? Perhaps not. But stores nowadays are cutting down there staff and when you are left with only a few lanes open, the temptation is there.
The lady got in her face first too.
There's an ice/snow storm forecast for us southerners. It wasn't like Gwen went through the line on a normal Thursday. I'm sorry, but these stores have to expect to be packed to the rafters w/people when they hear a big storm is coming. All lanes should have been open and anyone who thought they were just going to slip through the store and not wait at the checkout was deluded. When a flake is forecast here, the Food Lion is crammed w/people stocking up. If I needed just milk and bread, I'd go to the Quickie mart instead.

That was inconsiderate and rude of you to do that, especially since others were waiting in line behind you. It annoys me to no end to have to wait for some dufus to go through an Express Lane with half a cart full of groceries. I'm vocal about my annoyance at this sort of thing. My time is just as valuable as yours, as is everyone else's. You are no different than anyone else in the store -- it makes no difference how stressed or pushed for time that you are.
If anything, the cashiers at these Express Lanes should be more assertive in requesting that the Express Lane rule breakers go to the back of the line, use another lane, or remove items from their carts so that they are in compliance with the Express Lane rules.
Oh, and since you consider yourself a Christian...ask yourself "WWJD"?
