Ok...so when we went home to WV.. my mom gave haley some "old things" things that were her grandpaps... she gave her some
old pictures, some liquor stamps from the depression, some papers from the depression and other things..
Haley loves old things..she likes antique looking stuff etc.. BUT anyways.. my mom gave these to her and told her that they
really meant alot to my mom and that she wanted haley to take care of them etc.. which was really sentimental and really nice..
BUT NOW>>>...Haley is wanting to do the family tree... she has been on that ancestory site...or whatever it is... AND she's already
done the trial...now she wants to get into it.. OMG she's so funny...she's like come here..who's this...who's that...I'm like haley...
some of those people are over 100 years old..how would i know who they were??? SO I'm not sure if I am going to let her get
more into all of this or not.. BUT it def has her attention right now... She's been out of School since Dec. 18th...I'm so glad it's time
for her to go back tomorrow...LOL OK..another 'I don't know why i'm starting this topic"..but I thought it was funny!!! 1|1|sounds interesting tho :)|lydzkydz|wyldkydz@embarqmail.com|22:06:16|01/10/2010|

but quite honestly...I have quite a few shady relatives for some heinous crimes so a part of me is quite scared to see what I might dig up.....I'm thinking I may have to let sleeping dogs lie on this one.....

But it's great to see Haley so interested in her roots! 3|1|Cheyenne loves old vintage things too, and I am a member of Ancestry.com, so she loves searching old archives and records and helps me with our family tree. :)|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|22:08:09|01/10/2010|

But I'm not familiar w/it.
I think it's awesome tho for her to be interested in her ancestry & I think you should let her go w/it, just so she's careful not to reveal too much about herself (age, address, school, phone, etc.).
Maybe your mom or another elderly family member can help her along w/some of her questions about who's who from years back. Or ask around w/family members & see if there's another family member interested in your ancestry (maybe one w/a family tree already in the works?) who can help your daughter along.
As long as she keeps up w/her homework & grades at school, I think this is a wonderful thing for her to be doing. And who knows, maybe you'll eventually take a liking to it too. ;)

She has traced our ancesters back to my great, great, great, great, great, great grandparents but can't get any farther as they are German & the name changes spelling. Also has the other side to our great, great, great, great grandparents but they came from Prussia & the records are just not to be found. On my dad's side, it only goes to my great, great, great grandpa where it was found that at the approximate age of 7 he was found wandering in the woods with no memory, he was taken in by a family named Johnson,so he became a Johnson, so we really have no idea what our family name is. The assumption was his family was probably killed in an Indian attack but of course no one knew including him. So it can get pretty interesting. In the area where I live, there are a lot of old houses that are being redone. So many of them are pulling off old wallpaper & finding my grandpa's name & the date that he hung it on them. We knew he did this for a living but it's neat to have someone call & tell you they found this & cut it off & saved it for you. Mom has about a dozen or so of these wallpaper signatures now.

Yeah, I know it's a good thing...I don't think I have any worries about her grades.. she makes
straight A's.. and she's a pretty smart cookie.. I"m proud of her wanting to do all of the research.
AND I think my part in all of this is that I should really be interested in it with her....I know I've been
busy at times and just have said..oh...uh huh.. this and that... SO that's it.. Today I'm finding my
magnifying glass... I'm getting my plaid clothes on...AND I'm gonna be there on the scene...LOL
Yeah..I'm a little dramatic at times...LOL BUT I will give her good encouragement! : )

9|1|Shelly,I am glad you are letting her do this. Tracing ones family history is a blast. When my children were younger,we met up with an assortment of relatives in Canada. Some I knew, some I didn't. We ranged in age from 2 -72.|Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|13:12:34|01/11/2010|

We had a blast going to family homes, cemetaries, etc.
If you have any Latter Day Saints Churches/libraries in your area, you can go there as well
and look up records for free.
Here is a site for her:

I love old things and have such a huge family. so interesting to so what part our families played in life. Haley is doing a great job and I would definitely have her talk to your parents to get as much info as possible. I am sure your Mom will love sharing stories with her. Neat!! 11|1|My oldest son's tree goes back to 635 A.D. His grandparents on his dad's side gave me all the info back when he was born, it's really interesting and in fact, his ancestor was the King of all Ireland~*~|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|15:59:26|01/11/2010|
