11 0|0|anyone have any ideal.......how much a mechanic usually raises the price on parts?|couponsnsamples|cpsnsamples@aol.com|17:11:41|01/10/2010|

i know when they get parts for your car........they charge more than what they actually give.........wondering if anyone knows the percentage?

i had my van worked on this past wk..........he charged total......... $676......which included parts...labor and wrecker bill........

when i got home and looked over my bill.........he charged $376 for the fuel pump.......not including labor and such.............

i checked at auto parts...the fuel pump........costed.. $128 and a different brand costed $180,,

now i know they make money off parts...but $200???? 1|1|I have no idea and that is what is stressing me out about getting our van fixed this week, I'm hoping we can afford the cost~|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|17:26:04|01/10/2010|

4|3|call a few other places and ask what it would cost to get it fixed|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|17:52:30|01/10/2010|

they dont have to know you already had it done

then I would call the garage that worked on it and let them know. you would have a better idea of what the actual cost should be. I would also start out by saying..we always bring our car here and I am upset over how much you charged.....etc...

I would definitely call 5|4|Before you go off verifty the brand and warranty you are comparing...|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|18:52:24|01/10/2010|

Depending on the brand and where he got it, it could be he didn't make anywhere near the amount you think. For example my brake rotators there were some brands that were $30 per and some that were $120. We went for one in between the two. The warranties on them varied greatly.

8|7|i would check with actual garages that do the work and see what the charge would be total|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|20:13:07|01/10/2010|

that includes the cost of labor, etc..

what is the name of the item and description? did you try googling it for a price? 9|1|I know a couple of plumbers around here get their parts at cost.......|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|21:12:02|01/10/2010|

Then turn around & charge you triple what they paid for it. :(
I got my bathroom & kitchen sink faucets replaced last summer. Just about crapped my shorts when I got the bill of over $700! Labor was $50/hr. & only $150 of that bill! Went to the Ace Hardware store a few days later looking for something else & thought I'd check out the faucet prices while there. Just about puked when I seen they were 1/3 the cost of what the plumber had charged me! Grrrr!
But yes, save yourself a chunk of dough, whether it's car parts, elect. parts or plumbing, & try to get as many of the parts yourself.

And I have a couple of those big Do-It-Yourself books around here somewhere that I plan to find back again, cuz I'm going to try & figure out how to fix as much of my own stuff as possible. LOL
I had that same plumber replace the toilet & put in a utility sink in the basement the summer before & it didn't cost nearly as much as those measely faucets. Sheesh!
