I went thru the same thing here w/my other little dog after Toby passed away. For about a month she wasn't herself, wouldn't play & would eagerly be looking for Toby to come in the door w/me if I'd been gone. When I'd let her out for potty, she'd wait at the bottom of the step for Toby to come out, just as she'd done when he was still w/us. And for 2 wks., she wouldn't go anywhere near the area of the floor he'd been laying on when he passed. I kept his collar w/his name tag & believe it or not, she still gets excited when I take it out. I always wonder what goes thru her little mind about that. Toby had been w/us all her life. It's heartbreaking cuz you know they miss them but they don't understand they're not coming back.... It's been almost 2 yrs. now since Toby's been gone & I often think about getting another little dog to keep her company. Maybe in the spring....

There are many great dogs at shelters and some of them are 1 year old and up...no paper training needed, you would be helping a dog out by giving it a home. Clearly your dog is sad over the loss of her buddy...dog's have such short lifes compared to people....I say give her a buddy to keep her company. The new dog will never take the place of Sam...but I think it would help mend the heart and cheer your dog up..

I suspect that once another dog moves in with you, he will agree that it was a good choice. It is hard to think about a "new" right after a death of an old friend, but all of our lives are short. We have to do what we need to do to be happy!
And if that does not work, you tell him that if he still says no dog I am going to wait until Miss G is at her crankiest and then I am shipping her there! LOL! Chocolate Labs are 99% stomach! They also tend to be American rather than English Labs. So they grow bigger and are more hyper...needs lots of attention and training. I love Black labs, once they get over the puppy stage they are great dogs. very loyal and lovable

He's worse than a whirlwind in a teapot as Joy said. He's a full blown cyclone at top speed. I want to knock him out. He's suppose to belong to daughter's boys, but she conveniently forgot him when she moved out along with her beagle. So of course mom can take care of them & buy the foo along with food ,for this cocker spaniel & chihuahua. I'll gladly drop him on your doorstep!!!
