I've had magic jack for a few months. It was very easy to install. Their support was good too - I had a slight problem getting mine to work, and they got it fixed up in no time. (I don't think it was live support, rather you go to their website and you can run a diagnostic tool to figure out the problem).
Otherwise, I've had so-so luck with it. Sometimes when I call someone, it works perfectly. Other times, there is such a huge echo and lag, that it's impossible to have a conversation. I've read that the lag occurs when you call people with certain phone carriers, but whatever, it's annoying. This lag happens AT LEAST 25% of the time.
You might try googling "Jack Flash echo" or "Jack Flash complaints" to get a better idea of some of the problems you can encounter.
We have a pretty cheap phone, so that may contribute to it, but I have read of other people having problems too.
If you can get it to work, it's a great way to save money. But you won't know until you have it if it's going to work for you. Although for $40 for the initial investment, it could be worth the gamble to try it.
My guess is that in the next year or two, they'll make a better version of it.
