I have been a wreck, we had planned to spend 2 days with my parents (my mom is Miberetta). Well, she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Monday, her Doctor called Wednesday morning saying the chest xray was worse than suspected and she needed to go to the hospital. (guess it was in both her lungs, and she is a heavy smoker to boot)
She did not want to go, thought her anitibiotics would be fine, well, she could barely walk two doors down the halls without almost collapsing, coughing, choking, difficulty breathing....i tried to convince her to go to the hospital over the phone, she said no, i tried to convince my dad to call an ambulance, but he didn't. She finally agreed to go last night, was admitted, and just found out she has bacteria in her blood (sepsis), her oxygen was at 87%, so she is on oxygen, now on two different IV antibiotics.......I am scared, she is scared......I am all over the websites looking up sepsis and it's scary! especially since she is diabetic so i guess it's worse. She is only 60 (she will be 61 on January 2nd)
My dad says she is going to get some injections in her abdomen to prevent blood clots? her urine is a dark dark tea color (they are waiting for the doctor to order a urine......ugh, why wait, just do it!)
anyone know what a white blood count of 1700 in your blood means? she also low potassium, I really would love for any nurse on the board to help me figure things out!!!! If you know her from trading on the boards, you would know she is a wonderful, caring, giving woman!!
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers!!! She needs them!

The shots in the belly are probably Lovenox, it is used to prevent blood clots from being laid up in bed and inactive...it'll be temporary until she is up and around again...sepsis is a general term for infection in the blood, which came from the pneumonia not being treated quickly enough or perhaps with an antibiotic that wasnt effective enough to wipe it out in the earlier stages...she should have marked improvement now that she is in the hospital and getting IV antibiotics.....if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me! 3|2|Oh, meant to add....the dark urine is probably a UTI, which could also cause the sepsis, and they'll do a culture to make sure the antibiotic they have her on for the pneumonia will also work on the UTI, and if not, they'll find one to treat both or will add one. It is not that unusual for someone (especially after middle age and with diabetes) to have both pneumonia and a UTI at the same time.....she wasnt feeling well from the pneumonia and probably wasnt drinking enough fluids, thus the UTI...|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:46:12|12/26/2009|

My Moms condition has not changed since last night, my dad is spending the night with her tonight....he said she is scared. I am driving the couple hour trip down to be with her tomorrow morning. I will keep you all updated.

I am very happy that i got to spend the late morning and into the evening with my Mom yesterday! She was out of it the whole time I was there except for one 5 minute period and one 10 minute period. She had a CT scan last night, the infectious disease doctor was looking for interstitial lung disease. Her primary doctor and the case manager say she won't be going home for 4-6 weeks. When she is stable, she will be going to a rehab hospital. At least her blood pressure is stable, her blood sugars are unstable but i guess that is to be expected, she is getting nebulizer treatments often which seem to help, she is still on a high level of oxygen therapy that they will wean down when the time comes. The mornings xray show no change in her lungs, so i guess time will tell. She is on 3 anitbiotics (two IV's and one pill).
After reading about the disease they are looking for, I can only pray she does not have it! My dad is there now and he will call with an update when he leaves!
She has now spent Christmas at the hospital,and will be there for New Years and her birthday...Jan 2nd! If anyone has a card......either Get Well or Birthday.......It would be a huge pick me up! (and thank you so much Joy for offering to send her one =-) If you can send her one, I can let my dad know to bring them to the hospital for her!!! If you need, i can send you the postage via paypal as well!

My mom is having a lung biopsy today, the CT scan shows another problem in her lungs besides the pnuemonia, they are talking a couple different lung diseases, but hopefully will know the results within a day! The wait is hard!
Also, the CT scan showed she had fluid in her lungs and around her heart, she was given another medication for that...........
I will be driving down to see her again on Sunday.....terrible place to be for her birthday, but at least I can be there with her!
