Hi
I'm sorry I was not on last night but my Aunt passed away yesterday afternoon from lung cancer, and things were rough.

But anyway, here is Part 2 of

WHAT DOES GOD THE FATHER DESIRE FOR US?

(The Samaritan woman at the well)

When he told her about her first 5 husbands, the woman acknowledged Jesus as a prophet. The woman turned the discussion toward the ongoing debate between Jews and Samaritan about the correct place to worship. Samaritans traditionally worshipped at Mount Gerizim, but Jews went to the Temple in Jerusalem.
Jesus replied that the real issue was not where people worshiped. He identified God as Father. Both the Old and New Testaments reveal God as Father. As God's unique Son, Jesus had a special relation with God the Father. Jesus addressed God the Father as "Abba, Father" when He prayed in the garden of Gethsemane. The Aramaic term Abba suggests a special intimacy between a child and a parent, sort of like a child today calling a father "Daddy." The apostle Paul told his readers that they could also address God as Abba.

Christians realize that Human fathers often have flaws, but God the Father is the ideal Father. God the Father loves us and disciplines us without any abuse or favoritism.

Jesus told the Samaritan woman that the Hour would come when God's people would not worry about the location of worship. The fact that God is our Father is, however, an eternal truth for us to cherish.

The Samaritans were a mixed race, resulting from the intermingling of Israelites and foreigners after the destruction of the northern kingdom, Israel, in the eigth century. Jesus reminded the Samaritan woman that Salvation is from the Jews. God had promised that the Mesiah, the Savior, would come from the Jews. The woman eventually acknowledged Jesus as that promised Mesiah. The people from the vilage realized that Jesus was the "Savior of the world."

Jesus explained to the Samaritan woman God wants all people to worship Him, and that God is Spirit. Jesus did not delve into the details of the Doctrine of the Trinity here. Rather than address the relations of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus here affirmed the Spiritual nature of God. Gods essential nature is not a physical reality. He can take physical form temporarily in theophanies, such as in His visit with Abraham. He took Human form Supremely in Jesus Christ.

Jesus taught that we must worship God the Father In Spirit and Truth. Like the Hebrew prophets, Jesus stressed the inner attitude or Spirit of the worshipper. Performing ceremonies correctly is not enough to honor God. Our attitudes should match our actions. Jesus often criticized hypocritical worship by some of the religious leaders of His day. When our hearts are right with God, our worship will honor God.

Next weeks Bible Study will be

EXALTING THE SON

I will post a special Bible Study on Friday, Christmas Day, to praise God with the true meaning of Christmas.

:)

Always remember, with God all things are possible
