14 0|0|Anyone else not mailing out christmas cards this year?|JenSisk|JenRaeSisk@aol.com|14:58:48|12/10/2009|

I know it's petty but I feel terrible about not sending out christmas cards this year. I mail them out evry year and look forward to doing it.To tell you the truth I can't afford the stamps. Dh lost his job a few months ago and things have been getting tighter and tighter around here since then. He luckily found a new job making about half of what he did before. He gets paid strictly on commission now so some weeks we can get barely by and others we don't have enough to pay everything. Christmas this year is gonna suck for the kids but I have luckily found a few gift deals here and there when I have register rewards or extra care bucks to use. Anyways I should be thankful that we still have our home and heat. I just wanted to know if anyone else is skipping mailing out christmas cards this year? I really enjoy mailing them out but just can't afford to waste the money on stamps. Anyone else feel the same?

I was going to go to the dollar store instead of having them printed from a website. Then I did the math on the stamps... and we decided to just send e-cards this year.

I don't think it is petty at all. Honestly, I was crushed at first but that was just my pride. Last year we were doing well enough to have the card printed and mail them, this year we are in the same boat as you... reduced wages (and I am currently looking for full time work after 3 1/2 yrs as a stay at home mom). It was sad but you are so right that at least we have a home and heat (for now! don't know what the new year will bring) and that people will have to understand about not getting a card this year.

I don't know if it helps you to know you are not alone; I know that we can use that money for food instead so I am going to have to be "ok" with it this year.

Hugs to you, hang in there, we are smart women and will do what we must do :)

3|1|The only cards I sent out this year was for the card swap here, immediate family, and a few special friends here at RS, probably less than 30 cards in all (the card swap was 18 people I think)....I have pared down my card list every year, and last year I didnt send any cards at all.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:46:47|12/10/2009|

I bought pretty Christmas stationary last year after Christmas at 75% off. I did a letter with some digital pictures on my computer and will be sending that out this year with some Christmas envelopes I bought last year at 75% off too. For stamps, I have been trading my coupons for stamps on here and so have really saved money this year on cards and can still send out.

Seehere had 50 cards shipped to my house $3.19

I traded coupons for the past few months for stamps so I didn't have to buy them. I don't usually send as many as I did this year but since I had so many I didn't want them sitting around. When I could I handed them out instead of shipping them. My aunt actually goes and puts her neighbors in their mailbox or she pays her neighbor's older son a few pieces of candy to go put them in the boxes for her.

They really are such a waste of money that could be put to much better use.

Boxed cards are bad enough, but if you buy individual cards for "special" people, they can easily cost $3-$4 each :(

Not to mention the postage.

I wish everybody would stop sending cards and donate all that money to Toys for Tots or the Salvation Army, etc. That's really what Christmas should be about. 7|1|Mail free e:cards to family and friends :-)|CJDJ112366|Lintaos@optonline.net|19:02:16|12/10/2009|

Glad to know others agree that it is ok to skip this year. I think I will send ecards to close famliy and friends. THere are 20 to 30 people I usually send xmas cards to that I don't know their email addresses so I guess I will just have to skip them this year. You all make me feel better!! thanks :)

and I actually got free labels from Vista Print (well almost free...paid $3 for shipping)...and I had stamps that I had saved up from my stamp stash......so I don't mind sending Christmas Cards when it costs me next to nothing...but I refuse to shell out $40-50 between stamps, cards, labels, etc.....

I agree with everyone else...ecards are adorable and convenient...plus there's no waste involved...next year I may do them myself. 13|1|only send a few|msallen|m-sallen@juno.com|23:23:07|12/13/2009|

For several years now I have been sending our Christmas letter via e-mail. I attach a photo or two of the kids and send it to all of our friends. I wouldn't send out nearly so many if I had to pay for printing/copying or postage. And the best part is that I can send out 30+ messages in just a few minutes. The only ones that actually go snail mail are to people like my grandma who aren't on the computer (or local friends where I can drop it in their mailbox myself when I'm out and about). 14|2|I haven't sent xmas cards in years. Barely have the time to do the basics of Xmas for my family so sending Xmas cards hasn't been something I have done in a long time
