My older boys are 21 & 19 and I basically don't have money enough to get them anything for Christmas or their birthdays (they both have December birthdays). Need ideas on what to do for them. PLMK. TY

If you have a stockpile of men's shampoo/deo/etc you could make a nice giftbasket of that.

Get an inexpensive photo album and use it to put together their baby pix, awards, childhood drawing, etc for each. My mom did this when I was younger. I still have all of the albums she made. Has a school pix from each year, my final report card from each year, my swimming competition ribbons, other certificates from events, etc.

You could write them each a letter saying how much they have meant to you and tell what each brought to your life. Gifts don't have to be made....

Write letters to them because I think that is such a valuable gift.

You could bake some of their favorite things and make them a plate or basket of treats.

What do they hate doing the most? Some type of cleaning or something? Promise them a room/home/apt cleaning. Or another service if there is something they would like (car wash?)

For example, iron clothes, make time-consuming favorite dish, nasty cleaning tasks. 4|2|Just wanted to say "hang in there" as I might know how you feel|couponshelmd|couponshel@comcast.net|16:25:12|12/04/2009|

It is so difficult as a mom to NOT have something to give your "kids" to open. I just wanted to say that I think I understand and am sorry you are going through a rough time.

I don't know if your sons cook but when I was in college, my sister gave me the best Christmas gift. She made me "frozen dinners" from scratch... mostly my favorite foods but a few things to try, too. She is a great cook, she may have even just made extra portions with her own meals before the holiday. Any way, she gave me a stack of these frozen meals in disposable dishes that could be microwaved and I ate like a princess! I used them whenever I was low on food or had too much studying to do to cook for myself.

I have two young sons (they are only 3 1/2 yrs) and the gifts under the tree this year are all from Amazon.com because I was able to get gift codes from various survey and point sites. I started in June, right after their birthday, and am now really grateful, in the true sense of the word, that I have something to give them to open Christmas morning.

Hang in there and hope things look brighter soon. 5|3|Do a "Birthday dinner" for both of them|shellysmsmo|jpksms@sbcglobal.net|16:38:00|12/04/2009|

They're very likely hungry young men so I'm sure they'd welcome some home cooked food hotdish, scalloped potatoes & ham, homemade bread/rolls, &/or homemade sweet treats (fudge, caramels, pie, cookies, etc.). You could whip up a mix of something for each of them as I'm sure they have some faves of mom's home cookin'. ;)

I seen something about Avon in your post. Maybe you can sell enough Avon to buy them a gift or purchase cologne or bath items thru Avon. I don't know your gifts but I do know that God has given you special gifts and talents. Fall back on them now. Write a letter to each son expressing how much you love them for who they are and that you're thankful for their God given abilities that make them unique and special to you. You could also rent their favorite movie or bring out old family movies. Invite others over to share and ask them to bring a snack. Do you crochet or knit? You could make them hats, mittens or scarves or perhaps a blanket. You could join swap boards and swap items you don't need for items you'd like. Barter w/a friend - I'm sure if you network, you'll come up w/something. Maybe you could babysit or clean someone's house in exchange for something that they can give you in return....

Hugs,
