IF WE SAY, "WE HAVE NO SIN," WE ARE DECEIVING OURSELVES, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN US. IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS
HE IS FAITHFUL AND RIGHTEOUS TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.
MY LITLE CHILDREN, I AM WRITING YOU THESE THINGS SO THAT YOU MAY NOT SIN.
True believers know that sin is very real and that God takes it very seriously---so seriously that it took the death of His Son to pay sin's penalty. Gods people know that sin and guilt are still a tragic part of their lives, but they also know that God has provided forgiveness.
While some may deny the reality of sin and guilt. God's people acknowledge that both are true: sin separates people from God and guilt is the Spirits way of showing people how sinful they are.
It involves a cause/effect relationship between, the confession of our sins to God is the cause, that brings about the effect of Gods forgiveness. This view states that, although forgiven positionally in Christ, Christians still sin and need practical forgiveness in their daily lives.
John addressed his readers as MY LITTLE CHILDREN to indicate the close relationship he had with them as their Spiritual leader. He then indicated another purpose in writing the letter; SO THAT YOU MAY NOT SIN. The Lord demands that his people avod sin in their lives and practice righteousness. BUT IF ANYONE DOES SIN the Lord has allready made provision. Christians are not perfect people. They are forgiven people, and when they sin they have JESUS CHRIST THE RIGHTEOUS ONE as AN ADVOCATE WITH THE fATHER. Only Christ can help us when we sin, for He alone paid the price of sin through His death. The benefit of Christs death are not limited by time, space, class, or race, for. Jesus endured Gods wrath in His death on the cross, and this is the reason He is qualified to be our constant advocate at the Fathers side when we sin. What a helper He is!!
