Here's my whine session. So if you don't care or don't want to hear it skip this post now! It's raining and gloomy. It's supposed to be like this until Friday. I find that personally I seem to be very 'controlled' by the weather. No sun just pulls me down quickly. Then holidays ugh. I get the holidays grumpies. I guess in part it's due to my divorced parents and having to celebrate separate holidays for about half of my childhood. then to top it off my other issues in life which some of you know about. We are going to visit the inlaws on Saturday. Dh promised we'd get stuff done this four day weekend. We haven't spent any time unpacking, settling in here or trying to get rid of more junk. He promised that's what we'd do this weekend. Now Thursday my dad and step mom are coming for Thanksgiving, Friday we are going to his sister's for dinner, now Saturday we are going to his parents. I feel like what time does that leave us to get stuff done here. I wish just once my house looked like one in better homes and gardens. I wish my family wasn't so dysfunctional and was supportive. I wish this stupid house would sell and I could move into a house and neighborhood I was proud of. I know I'm being stupid and I'm blessed beyond reason with health and my kids and husband and my marriage. I just ... want more I guess.

I think that I tend to focus on what I want for my family as well. Of course, right now I would settle for having a house without a truck shaped hole in the foundation :)

But seriously, I think it is good to recognize that is a stinky time of year and that things are not the way you want them to be at this point in time. The whole family issues are not going away before Saturday, acknowledged. Can you make better use of your time meeting your goal of unpacking? Of course. In the long run, you will go to keep what little peace is left in his family, even if you all dislike all of them.

My prayers are with you for serenity for the holidays my dear... and of course if you need to vent, please do so; I think it is healthy :)

Hugs,
Shel 6|3|Don't worry about unpacking.... enjoy the kids and hubby.. Nothing better than a housefull of happy.giggling kids for the holidays...|CJDJ112366|Lintaos@optonline.net|19:54:44|11/24/2009|

I don't deal well w/drab, gloomy, rainy days which has also been going on here this week (this has been a BAD, BAD week here btw). I have NO ambition at all when it's like this for more than 1 day. :( Then there's the Holidays.... w/all the advertising, glitter, glamor & stress. It's just not like it used to be & there's way too much focus on the material things anymore & not on what it's really about. And for what? It's all over when I wake up Dec. 26th. I LOVE just being w/those dear to me, all the good food & the pretty lights shining thru pure white snow. So simple & easy! The rest? Well... I'd rather sleep right thru it. I remember last year, the only time I felt relaxed & at peace was during the hour I sat in church during Christmas morning services. There was NO pressure/stress, no mobs, no materialism - just calm, peace & quiet (unless you count the congregation singing the Christmas hymns. LOL).

My point is, you're certainly not alone in your feelings but you need to do something for YOURSELF whether it's church, spending time w/your family or curled up w/a good book (chocolate helps too! LOL), etc., find that special "something" that's meaningful to YOU & helps you escape from all the pressure & helps you feel peaceful & relaxed. As for the weather.... I honestly wish I knew what to do about that, short of moving to a sunny, warmer climate. Maybe a sunlamp? :)

Saying a little prayer for you today and hoping that you know that so many people care about you. Hang in there and hug those kids and this too will pass.

I wish you didn't have to deal with the in-laws. I think they are a case of "the only way through it is through it", so I think you just have to hold your breath and go. Then come back to us and debrief for your sanity. We'll all be here.

Me too - I am HOPING that my DH is too sick to drive 3 hours to my sister's house tomorrow and drive 3 hours back. He is getting sick and I "think" I heard him cough last night so maybe he will want to stay home tomorrow and "rest". To me that would be the perfect Thanksgiving. That way I won't have to hear my sister gripe about something when I walk in the door:

Why did you wear that? I gave you a Thanksgiving sweater (HIDEOUS) about 20 years ago. Where is it? Are you too fat to wear it now?

What did you do to your hair? You need to go to a beauty shop once in awhile. (DH is standing there and he is a barber and has cut my hair for the past 40 years).

You didn't park in the driveway did you? Last year you did and leaked some oil on our driveway. (I live in the country and our "driveway" is dirt and rocks.)

PLEASE - just let my DH have a one day "sick day" and be well on Friday!

When they both died, the will stated that since they disapproved of their sons marriage that they were leaving him $1!! Try that for family. They never acknowledged me nor my 2 kids but even worse they never acknowledged the twins who belonged to their only son. As far as they were concerned, my hubby had 2 kids & no wife. But that was okay with me, as far as I was concerned they didn't exist neither.

If those people can't put aside their petty immaturity for a few hrs. & be decent & civil, I'd refuse to go. Who wants to be around rude & nasty people on a Holiday that's supposed to be fun & geared towards togetherness, happiness & gratitude for the things we're fortunate enough to have?
I'd much rather stay in the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere of my own home & pull out the turkey tv dinner, can of cranberry sauce, Brown 'n Serve rolls, lefse & have at it w/the pumpkin pie & Cool Whip in solitude. LOL

FYI - we would NOT even go at all but my Mother's birthday is Nov. 24 - so they always celebrate Mom's birthday and Thanksgiving. Poor Mom - she is 87 years old - she wears two hearing aids and still can barely hear - so she goes around all day smiling at everybody!

Also, the food is always so bad that we stop along the way home to eat! No kidding. About the only thing open is convenience stores and truck stops. But, I did see that our Pizza Hut was going to open in the evening, so maybe we can find a Pizza Hut along the way!

I feel your pain (and depression). I too am controlled by the weather, not even sure how I make up here in Maine. COLD, RAINY and GLOOMY most of the time!
As for getting anything done. We had a garage sale about 3 months ago, our garage still looks like a garage sale! God for bid anyone help me clean it up and now there is MORE junk! Every week they all say their going to help and then something comes up. I get fed up with it. I'm ready to trash it all!

Anyone want a pretty white/blue eye bunny (yes you read the correctly, he only has one eye)? The kids pay NO attention to it and I think there are days that he has no water or food. If I don't check up on him he'd never get fed.

Bah Humbug!

Kristy I hear ya girlfriend - why can't there be 8 days out of the week? But then again it would just be another day to get nothing done :o(
