ok i went and got the neti pot thingy and it hurt my ears i used it and didnt see any results :( im taking mucinex and day quil and claritin i may overdose before i get relief :(

antibiotic my daughter just got over the same thing and she had it so bad she missed a week of wor. she let it go so long she had blood in her nose and ears and a bad ear infection. 11|3|Cholorseptic spray to help with the sore throat, they also have drops you can suck on. Hot (as you can stand it) chicken broth (better if made from bullion cubes) and lots of vitamin C (best if straight from an orange). PS ~ It has been proven that there is an enzyme in chicken broth that helps fight colds. Oh also, alak seltzer, the drop drop fizz fizz kind if you can stand it, if not then the gel tablets, they always help us.

I know it sounds really really weird... but my son has chronic croup... and I hate having to give him the steroids if it gets bad... Well dh's mom told us an old wives tale to put vicks really thick on the soles of his feet and cover with thick socks... We then give him tea with honey and lemon and off to bed... I swear it works great... and he hasn't had to have his meds in over a year... don't know if it works for everyone but worth a try lol!

It is miserable, isn't it? Coughing constantly until your neck and back hurt. Sorry I don't have any suggestions, just commiserating.
We tried the vicks and socks thing a couple of times and it didn't work. :(
Humidifier sounds like a good idea.

still coughing and miserable i took a round of antibotics a z- pack it didnt help at all that is why i think its just a cold but geeze i have never had a cold so stubborn and unreponsive i have taking everything i think its up to the good LORD to help me now thank you for all the support

I'm just asking because the swine flu affects the resipatory system, and if the antibiotics aren't working... there could be something else at work! My doctor gave me Relenza when I had the flu (they thought it was swine, because it got significantly worse in a short period of time). Relenza is an inhaled item.
You may not have all the symptoms, but I've heard you don't have to have the fever and everything with it. Better to be safe the sorry.

I have a doctor's appointment, but it's not until Tuesday, and this doesn't seem to be getting better on its own. I finally broke down and bought some generic mucinex, and it at least is making me feel a little less uncomfortable but it doesn't seem to be getting better much.

You could always try Buckley's. And you can PRAY you stay congested after you swallow---you'll WISH for it!!
I'm not sure if it actually works-----or if it just tastes so bad that I convince myself that I'm feeling better. But my DH and most of Canada swear by the stuff.
But be forewarned.....it even advertises "tastes awful, but it works!" It is NOT exaggerating --- it takes horrible. Somewhere between swallowing semi-melted Vicks Vapor-Rub and turpentine.
Usually if I'm feeling miserable enough to use the Netipot, then I'm also taking a dose of Buckley's.
My nephew is sick right now, and he actually asked about Buckley's.... until my sister got it down and just had him SNIFF it. He declared he wasn't THAT sick yet.... and also mentioned that he wasn't sure it was safe to ingest---it smelled like toxic chemicals. ROFL. He has said that IF...and only IF/WHEN he is 5 minutes from death, would he take Buckley's. (Which is one step braver than my BIL---who won't take it even AFTER death.... ROFL)
