Last time I was at Costco I bought this 6 pound bag of pretzels cheap, so today I was looking at them and wishing they were sweet. I thought of my chocolate chip stockpile and thought "how hard can it be", so first I had some older (they have probably been in the cupboard all year) white chocolate chips. I throw them in a glass bowl and microwave them. I stir them and add some butter because I can see that the chips are staying pretty hard. The stuff comes out looking like fudge and will not drizzle let alone STICK to a single pretzel.

Not to be deterred, I figure I can just try again because I should have used a double boiler anyway. So this time milk chocolate chips start melting and they too immediately harden up, so I add butter and it isn't quite like fudge, but no drizzle either.

I wasn't about to try a third time, so I just rolled the pretzels in the frosting like chocolate and it tastes really good.

But how do you take chocolate chips and make them into something that can cover pretzels. Is there some trick I am not aware of? I suspect one of you knows... 1|1|I use milk chocolate.. double broiler. I roll them in the chocolate|Kristy|mi3zons1@yahoo.com|20:06:14|11/20/2009|

while it's still in the double broiler then I roll the pretzel rods in sprinkles or some such thing my kiddos like. I don't have any hints for white chocolate I've never tried it.

stir until smooth then dip. Really only need about a tsp of shortening.

you put the whole bag in a glass bowl (do not cover so moisture does not get in) and cook on high for 1 min. remove and stir (will still be firm with some melted) place back in and cook 30 secs, stir (if still not completely melted you can do another 30 secs)

If you overcook chocolate it will cause the chocolate to harden that is why you need to start out slow and on low heat on the stovetop. moisture will also cause the chocolate to harder

I do choc covered strawberries all the time and pretzel rods with the nestle morsels and never have problems.

adding butter will only add fat and make it glossy, shortening is definitely better, but I never need it as I do the slow melt process and it works fine

have fun!

p.s. when I do the pretzels i decorate with sprinkles, crushed peanuts, or white chocolate dizzled over dark, etc.. 4|1|Thank you! I knew I would get some answers...|sunriver|lithiasalt@cheerful.com|23:34:09|11/20/2009|

Will try several of those ideas next time. I'm thinking they would be a nice goodie for holiday parties for the non-profits we are involved with and I know the whirlwind of open houses/holiday parties are just ahead! :0)

DH took them to work and handed them out to his favorite clients. Holy cow they demanded more LOL. They all loved them!
