18 0|0|So upset - medical insurance increase for 2010 :(|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|17:02:05|11/07/2009|
Posted on Nov-07-09 at 05:02 PM (Eastern) by 64.12.116.68

I currently pay $973 for medical insurance for JUST me (no husband or kids!)

And I just got a notice that it is being raised to $1,138 in January.

What in the world are people supposed to do?

I'm 62 so I have three more years until I can get Medicare.

This really sucks. 1|1|Mine went up 12% for just me per month|bluh2oeyes|bluh2oeyes@yahoo.com|17:12:01|11/07/2009|

I saw the biggest increase I've ever seen for me...mine went up 12% per month.

Not as much as yours but still hurts my wallet big time.

Last year I increased my deductable to the max to save money only to be hit with this increase this year.

The only way for me to save is to change to lesser coverage, which I just won't do so I'll have to tighten up more on my spending on other things.

You just can't win.

I can't even do that. Since this is not through an employer (I work part-time and don't get benefits), I have absolutely no choice in the type of plan I can have.

Cause I have some serious, chronic health issues and at 62, I could never be without major medical insurance.

Plus, I take 5 prescriptions.

My husband and I have always had high premiums. We, too, had no choice but to pay as one bad crisis can wipe out everything you have. 10 years ago we were paying $900 a month for just the two of us. Everyone said it would be cheaper to drop it and pay medical bills. I became pregnant during this time. The average cost of medical bills for the pregnancy, delivery, follow up, etc. was $2,500, certainly cheaper than the cost of insurance. However, there were complications to the pregnancy and delivery and our bills mounted to thousands and thousands of dollars. We will never drop our policies for this reason. We did however find a policy that was far less expensive. It was consisdered temporary insurance as you got the policy for one year only, but could renew it at the end of that time and continue to do so for a few years. Fortunately for us, hubby has been blessed with a job that pays quite a bit on our insurance. I hope this situation improves for you. I know it is very stressful.

Dana 9|5|Nods, I'm so sorry you MUST pay this outrageous amount. I hope you get better and perhaps your costs will go down. GL to you!|pussecat|pu55ecat@aol.com|08:11:15|11/09/2009|

that the government would lower the eligibilty age to 62 to get on Medicare. We are just barely getting by with the premiums we pay. 10|2|Yeah, even if we had to pay higher premiums for Medicare, it would help so much :(|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|10:25:52|11/14/2009|

Instead of the $96.40 that Medicare charges for 65+, it would be wonderful if those between 62 and 65 could pay a much higher premium for care. I'm sure they could offer coverage for less than $1,138 per month :(

I understood that because there is NOT going to be a cost of living increase in 2010 for those on SS & SSI, the medicare premiums were also NOT supposed to increase. My mom rec'd a letter the other day, however, that there WILL be a premium increase in January. :(

I work at a senior residence and we have gotten notification that there will not be an increase in Medicare premiums for our residents.

I hope that's true. 13|3|My mom has SeniorCare & Senior Preferred as Medicare supplement insurance....|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|11:06:51|11/14/2009|

And she received a letter from Senior Preferred that the premium will be increasing from $75/month to $90 something. :( Since having Medicare part A & B is required in order to qualify for SeniorCare & Sr. Preferred, how can those premiums be allowed to increase if there isn't going to be a cost of living increase to her Soc. Security?

And don't you think it's rather strange how whenever there is a cost of living increase on the SS or SSI, all the other medicare/medical premiums/deductions go up so what's the sense in it if it defeats the purpose!

No increase in Part A. Or so I read....It had to do with income level and if the percon was receiving both Medicare and Medicaid. I did a quick google search but didn't see anything new since the first week of Oct. 16|4|You are asking about private insurance.|zydeco|kimr@alador.com|23:54:57|11/14/2009|
