On top of it, my DH is National Gaurd (after 6 years full time) preparing for his second deployment to Iraq, 3rd total overseas hardship tour and the danged military cant even pay him on time, let alone the correct amount, so of course, bills are falling behind. Do we get any help? Nope. Illegal aliens need to be sent back home. Period. We have laws and we have to abide by them, they should be held to the same laws. Period. Everyone knows if we go to any other country we wont get treated as good as their citizens, why should they be treated better than those of us who are here legally???

I didn't watch the video, but I'm pretty sure that without watching it, the government is not trying to ruin our way of life. Surely the current Gov't can't be seriously considering all these terms. They will be asking for RIOTS in the streets! Isn't there enough hatred amongst warring factions already, without turning neighbors against each other????
The only thing that I can think of is that it would be incredibly costly, and difficult, if not impossible, for the Gov't to find them and send them all back. It would tie up the immigration and legal systems for decades to come! Amnesty is probably the cheapest, fastest solution to an insurmountable problem.
But then what? Just let anyone in??? GOOD Immigration reform is badly needed.

But my husband is a LEGAL one...and I'd be offended if anyone lumped him in with people who did not file the correct paperwork BEFORE entering this country, pay the fees for the paperwork, fulfill their end of the agreement to STAY and work, and pay and file taxes each year. I guess I just get all riled up when I see foreigners/illegals or whatever you want to call them, come over here and get things and we can't even get insurance or anything. We are all friends here and even though we don't always see eye to eye on things, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions. My great grand parents came over here from Italy at the turn of the century and they went through all the papers and things and became citizens here. I even have the papers. Cathie clearly stated she did NOT bother to watch the video. It's kinda hard to make a generic post like she did when she didn't bother to even watch the video. Stating you don't like a particular tv personality or channel is just an opinion. We all have our likes and dislikes. Amy was commenting on the insane status of the political correctness in this country. It's getting to be the whiny minority has control over what is said or done. For example Christmas. Like 90 some percent of USA citizens celebrate Christmas. Yet almost every store in the country has banned the use of Merry Christmas by their employees to their customers. At what point do we let the minority rule??? A popular comedian we watch told a joke at one of his performances about how he went to a local Chinese restaurant. While there he asked for a fork and knife as he was struggling with the chopsticks. He was told no as they were trying to keep the authenticity of the "chinese" atmosphere. He laughed and said if the guy he was talking to wasn't named Bob and the waiter not John maybe he coulda run with that lol. The point is someone Chinese in the audience of this performance got offended and stomped out. And the comedian had his future performances at that location canceled. IT WAS a JOKE!!! When I was growing up years ago holy cow every joke was a racial joke of some sort. No race, person, or short coming was safe. At one point did we decide that we can't laugh at ourselves??? To me that's truly sad.
All of this said, Amy was not intentionally hurting anyone's feelings. She just states her mind and put a little humor in it. She actually was honked at me for stating alien and illegal were the same. I read what she wrote and rolled. She pointed out the error of my thought and how I simply confused the issue. If someone takes offense to everything we ever write what's the point in writing. There are posts on here all the time it's called Freedom of Speech. Get your feelings hurt, jump in and disagree. There was no naming calling or personal attacks. And everyone of those who have posted blaming Amy frankly tick me off. I love Amy and know her well. And I am disgusted to say...everything in that report is true. And I watched the video....which got my dander up last night. Part of my above comment was from actually seeing the clip and responding to the person in the opening.... about free health care and free education (part of the video).
Part of my post (the sarcastic part, I admit), was because I got upset at seeing someone lump my DH in with people who broke laws and have been given stuff for free. We went through a year long process and over $500 in fees... plus the paperwork, time, etc to comply with the laws on this country. And by merely stating that someone who didn't come into this country by legal channels...is called an "illegal" somehow offends. My main goal was to say it is just a true term...no offense meant, and I don't understand how the term "illegal" is an offense. Yes, I got sarcastic.... my family admits I was born that way--- not really meant to be directed AT ANYONE....but rather at the new political correctness.... fear of offending anyone which has gripped our nation. I normally DO keep my mouth shut, because I KNOW I am sarcastic and bound to offend someone (whether I truly mean to or not).
I am plain spoken and call 'em like I see 'em. I am also a blonde who likes blonde jokes---lord forbid a totally non-correct ideology to begin with. And, in general, I believe I cannot please everyone all the time...nor would I want to---as that ends up pleasing NO ONE. Sorry if the sarcasm made anyone mad---but the whole thought of "illegals" being handed more than what our own citizens are entitled to...upsets me GREATLY. Even more so to hear that taxpayers would be paying for the legal fees to implement this! And heaven knows, it would be at the hugely overstated government billing rate (the same one that pays hundreds for a toilet seat or hammer). And I've seen this same government placing liens on taxpayers houses---yet totally willing to forgive all back taxes (and social security and medicare) to people in this country illegally. Plus paying a foreign country to help them entice people to stay (and not being able to direct WHERE that money goes to---in a country possibly more corrupt than our own.)...it's insane.
We are all entitled to our own opinions....and one of mine is that political correctness can go too far at times. Sometimes the best term for something is the simplest and most direct. And for anyone who is offended by simple and direct...then I apologize.

The truth is, regardless how acurate or inaccurate his description of the provisions of the the bill he talks is, the video is from June 2007 and the bill is long dead. It never became law. This YouTube link takes you to the same video, with an upload date of June 25, 2007. Bill S. 1348 ("Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007" or "Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007") died in June 2007 due to lack of support in Congress. Yes, that's more than a year and a half before Barack Obama became President of the USA. President George W. Bush expressed his "disappointment" at lawmakers failing to pass a bill.

When I looked into it I found it WAS submitted in 2007----right after the Democrats took over the House in Fall of 2006. It was their big kick back then (like health care is now).
Like all bills...this has been pigeon holed until someone opts to dust it off and resubmit it. But with the same party in control of Congress.....it worries me that AFTER they get health care off their plates, that they'll start on a steam roller. And some of the same people who started that last submission of it are still in Congress---hence the fear that we have NOT heard the last of this--nor has it ever been changed.
Seeing that video, I thought it had been resubmitted again......turns out...thus far it hasn't because health care is on the front burner. But with elections next year.... we all know everyone pulls something out of the old trick bag to campaign with.
Glad to hear it is NOT actually out in the open at the moment....but it never hurts to hear about what still lurks in the minds and hearts of our politicians (nightmares anyone?? LOL)

Obama's senior advisor said today that a plan to grant citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. is in the works and could be made law as early as next year.
On CNN's "State of the Union" with John King, the White House's David Axelrod dodged a question asking him to commit to pushing immigration reform regardless of the political climate, but nonetheless confirmed earlier hints by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano that Democrats and Republicans are working behind the scenes to pass major new legislation....
