39 0|0|Based on Sunriver's post about her phobias...I just thought it would be neat to start this thread: what is YOUR worst/funniest phobia and what do you suppose is the reason for it/them? My worst phobia is scorpions, then next on the list is driving across a narrow bridge and meeting another vehicle on the bridge...funny thing about my phobias - I have never been stung by a scorpion, nor have I had an accident or even a near-accident on a bridge...those two things just for some reason make me freeze with that panicky fearful feeling...|emerald9|brandaseider@yahoo.com|10:41:08|10/29/2009|

That we'd share on the board, then our deep rooted painful fears. I have my normal fears like fire in my home, or driving in tunnels or bridges. My dad taught me to drive defensively and those situations leave no way out. But as for my deep rooted fears that's just not something for the public eye.

No reason for this fear but ive always had it. Any Bathroom that I walk into i always find myself wandering with my hands in front of me in case someone or something is to jump out. lol. Once I find the light I survalence the area before my heart stops pounding. I often avoid using the bathroom as much as i can just because it scares me that bad. I even do this in my own home.

Anyone remember that one?
For a long time after seeing it, I had to check in the closets & under the bed EVERY night before I went to bed, & dreaded riding in a car at night (I stayed on the floor in the back). LOL My older sisters had let me watch this stupid movie one night when they were babysitting me while my parents were gone, & they got in deep trouble when my parents found out. LOL

I can deal w/a snake, even a rat, better than I can deal w/a spider. And I'm working on conquering my fear of heights, just as I conquered my fear of the dark many yrs. ago. :) I'm also not too fond of needles, particularly when they get too close to the upper part of my body, but it's not as bad as heights or spiders. Other than that, there isn't too much I'm afraid of. Let's just say my philosophy is, "I'm going to nail whatever IT is before it nails me", be it human, animal or inanimate. LOL

ETA: Oh yes. Certain bridges, like those w/large bodies of water underneath, close to the water, way high up or those where the water is visible thru the grids. There's one called the Lansing Bridge & it is horrid! LOL

The mobile home park was right across from a cornfield & only a block from a feed supply place. The kicker was that the people I bought the mobile home from had left a storage shed packed full of their stinking garbage. Rat haven, but I got rid of all the trash, the rats AND that shed. The thing is, you can smell when rats are around. I'd come home from work & there was a unique but nasty smell, not like poop, pee or anything rotten tho. Hard to describe but most definitely distinct. When I got rid of the rats, the smell also disappeared. And where there are rats, there are very likely NO mice as the rats kill the mice. A few mos. after the rats had been gone, I was never so happy as to see a mouse! LOLOL

WARNING-- You are going to get GROSSED OUT!

Did you know that the best way to get a bug out of your ear is to use hydrogen peroxide and let it bubble up a little bit, thereby flushing said bug out?

I learned this at about 4:30 this morning after S woke me up saying that a bug had crawled into her ear and she could hear it and feel it moving around and what on earth should she do to get rid of it?

I am always amazed at how calm I am at moments like this. It's almost like I become a different person because thinking back on it all I can imagine I would do is to make a loud sound like "Ewwwwww...", back away from said kid and do a crazy dance as if I had the bug in my ear.

Once I woke up enough to be able to see, I stood in the bathroom where there is the best light and had her stoop (because she is taller than I am these days) down so that I could look and see if I could see a bug. Because the ear canal winds around a bit, I couldn't see anything, so I figured this is one of the many reasons why I keep Jason around and so I woke him up so he could help. It turns out that he also had a bug crawl into his ear once and he did not wake his parents up, but did smack the opposite side of his head hard enough so that his bug decided to leave and look for another place to explore. So picture, if you will, one 14 year old child who is miserable because she can feel a bug in her ear and two tired parents huddled into the bathroom together while she tries to hit the side of her head and smack the bug out. That did not work.

So, we start talking about what else we can do and we all conclude that water would be okay as long as we are careful not to get too much into the ear, so first we try to use a towel to squeeze a little water in and nothing happens. S says that now she not only feels the bug moving around, but it makes this sloggy sound from being in water and it is even worse. So, she tries to take a shower and while she is in there we do what any 21st century parent does when a kid gets into something bizarre-- we google what to do when a bug gets into your ear. Mostly people suggested water. Web-Md suggested the ER, but I'm thinking as bad as I feel for the kid, I do not want to spend $500 to see a bug carcass and we will keep trying to fix it at home first. Yahoo answers had a few interesting ideas including one that said to use oil in the ear (i declined that suggestion because it only had one vote) and one idea to get a blade of grass and stick it into the ear and hope that the bug would attatch itself to the grass and get out. Remember it is only about 5 am now and I am not really excited about wandering outside to find grass and besides that J was not willing to hold the grass in her ear, so we scratched that idea. S came back downstairs and said that the bug was even making more noise and she was really grossed out. Finally we saw "hydrogen peroxide" mentioned in a few places, so we grabbed some out of the medicine cabinet, dribbled a little into the ear and kept a towel underneath it (thank god J was doing this-- this is exactly why I keep him around) and it bubbled and (are you ready?????) an EARWIG climbed out!!!!!!!!!!

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.... crazy dance!

After patting ourselves on the backs for being so resourceful and hugging S who was finally feeling normal again, we all got a little more sleep.

Oh, the bug was pinched to death. .02 worth of hyroden peroxide,

Pincher bug photo now our backdrop on computer-- Priceless! 37|4|Ha! I'm gonna remember this one.....you never know when it might happen! :O |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|13:28:19|10/30/2009|

I'm editing this to say: that tornado was a few months back, not here recently.
I heard the town sirens, and was already out in the area, I live in town anyways
and decided to get home fast.

It has become so bad that I am hanging over the toilet for hours before a flight. When I was 18, I was with a school group in Chicago for the holidays. My dear uncle passed away while I was there and I had to return home asap. Alone and upset I waited at the airport for hours during a winter storm. The wings of the plane had to be de-iced and I became a bundle of nerves. Once in the air there was a lot of turbulence and I became airsick. I live in the south where tornados can occur anytime of year, and a cold front was moving thru the area resulting in severe storms and tornados at home. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at another airport and we sat on the ground until the threat of storms passed. That was 27 years ago and I am still terrified when I board a plane!
