It went through yesturday and was approved for food stamps, not enough for one person to eat on a month let alone a family of 3 but hey I'll take anything right about now. Also approved for medical for my daughter but not for us. I was told we all should get it because of our income so I don't know why we didn't. The way I understood the person on the phone when I called was we basically aren't getting anything for Oct. why I don't know but will start getting in Nov. which it takes the card 3-10 days to come in the mail. Does anyone know when you get it is the amount on it right then or do you have to activate it somehow and then wait for them to show up? They didn't really tell me much on the phone. 1|1|I'm so glad they finally approved you for food stamps girlie, I agree anything amount is better than nothing. We couldn't even qualify for them in AZ and we were way below poverty level, plus we still don't have insurance, which stinks :( |RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|15:25:13|10/28/2009|

On the back of the card is a toll free number. When you call it and key in the number on the front of the card
it will tell you how much money is available. Don't forget that the Angel Food Ministry takes food stamps.
Also you can only buy food with the card...no paper products, no alcoholic beverages, no pet foods, etc...

Debbie 4|4|I thought I would get back pay also|crenchen|crenchen@aol.com|16:25:38|10/28/2009|

but the girl on the phone said that for Oct./Nov. I would be getting the same amount that I will get monthy so I made sure and asked her if it would be double the amount that I would get monthly and she said no. It is supposed to be mailed from Texas so I sure hope I get it by Sat. or Mon. at the latest because I am tired of spending money on food that could be going in the gas tank or on a bill. Thank God we had bought a half a cow back in July so we have meat just not pork but with hubby being home everyday it is going down real fast. 5|5|it took about 3 weeks for me to get my card......and the letter telling me the amount didnt come for about 2 more weeks.....but...|couponsnsamples|cpsnsamples@aol.com|18:30:41|10/28/2009|

Say, if someone was approved for them the end of Oct. or the 1st part of Nov., but based on their HH income he/she was actually eligible for the entire month of Oct., they would be allotted October's amount in Nov. along w/the November allotment, so he/she would get 2 month's worth when the next allotment is issued. They won't backdate them to any earlier than the previous month. MA is a little different again, however. Even if you applied for MA in Oct. but they find you were actually eligible for Aug. &/or Sept., they can backdate the MA to those dates to cover any medical expenses you may have incurred during that time.
Because things like that are Federal Government, you'd think they'd be the same amount across the board/USA wide but they're not. Each state & county have different guidelines for asset & income limits based on that state's/county's population, fair market value of housing, cost of living, utility rates, etc. Some things are also at the case worker's discretion based on a client's circumstances. The case worker must still follow the legal guidelines but is able to make exemptions in certain situations. For example, if a program requirement would pose an undue hardship or more of a hardship on the client/client's family or if the client is already performing a similar requirement - if you had a disabled child or spouse who needed you at home to care for them & the Food Stamp program required a client to either be working 40 hrs. a week or looking for work so many hrs. a week. The case worker can exempt you from that requirement so that you're able to continue providing the necessary care the disabled child/disabled spouse needs. HTH for a better understanding. ;)
Something you may also want to inquire about is gas vouchers &/or medical transportation assistance. There are usually other types of assistance that aren't often mentioned but are available if you're aware of them so can ask & receive info on them. Gas vouchers are to help a client get to/from work or school. Medical transportation assistance helps by reimbursing a client a certain amount for trips to medical appts. (drs., dentists, chiropractors, eye drs., etc.). For the medical transp. asst., I believe you'd get a form per month in which you'd have to document the dates, mileage & name of medical facility & have the medical provider sign at each appt. This would be for all family members who qualify but I don't know if each family member would have a separate form or not. You'd then submit that form to your case worker at the end of each month to receive the reimbursement assistance the following month, or somewhere around there.
I've only heard of these things from others so I'm not entirely sure what all they entail. But I think it's something worth checking into if they're available & you qualify.

Sorry this was so long but I hope it helps you or someone else. ;)

i sure wasn't waiting for it to come in the mail 3 or 4 days later when i am 5 minutes away

i am sure glad you got some help
and glad your daughter got medical
around here kids can get it if you qualify or if you are pregnant or disabled i think it is
but not if you are OK in health
my boys have medicaid but we don't have health insurance
we just try to stay healthy
and i try to stay away from the doc office as much as i can

around here some stores will require you to pay tax on the coupons when you use your food stamps card
but some don't so dont' be surprised if they charge you a bit of change i was shocked but i got used to it
i don't mind paying like 25c for 50.00 in groceries using my card

good luck with it all
