8 0|0|dumb question re garage door opener?|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|17:08:28|10/23/2009|

Unfortunately, I do not have a side door on my garage.

If the power ever went out for my garage door opener, I would have no way to get in the garage!

Who would I call to get into the garage? A locksmith? A place that sells garage door openers? A handyman?

I would really appreciate some advice.

1|1|does the garage door have a handle on it? if so then it should be programmed to automatically go "manual" in case of a power failure and you should be able to lift it yourself. hth|pussecat|pu55ecat@aol.com|17:13:04|10/23/2009|

2|1|There is a rope with a handle on it (mine has a red handle) hanging from the garage door opener, just pull that handle and it disconnects the garage door opener so you can open it manually.....hth :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|17:14:20|10/23/2009|

there's no way to test it to see if it is, in fact, programmed to go manual in case of a power failure, is there? 6|3|sure, just find the breaker switch that leads to the garage door opener and flip it off. hth :)|pussecat|pu55ecat@aol.com|08:54:26|10/24/2009|

4|2|the rope hanging is inside the garage, I'm talking about being locked outside the garage...|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|21:37:04|10/23/2009|

in case of a power failure 5|3|Test it now from the outside. If your garage door has a handle on the outside, you should be able to manually turn it & then lift up. It'll feel like lead but it should open.|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|22:01:49|10/23/2009|

The best thing to do is to test it now, before a power failure happens, so you'll know for sure one way or the other.

I had someone inside the garage turn off the power and then tried the handle on the outside to try to open the door and it did not work. It stayed "locked".

So back to my original question: who would I call if I got locked out of the garage? A locksmith, a handyman, an electrician, a place that installs garage door openers, some other kind of professional?

8|5|That's weird it didn't open cuz it works that way w/mine. (m)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|13:28:26|10/24/2009|

Sorry it didn't work. :(
In that case then, if you know of a handyman who knows about garage doors, that would probably be your cheapest route. Otherwise, I would say a good bet would be someone who installs elect. garage doors.
