i was a cashier for 21 years. it was hard with coupons because the store always gave in when a person complain about them. but we were trained to do them a certain way plus we had company spys that would get on your line. i didn't want to lose my job over a coupon. the kids didn't care they would do and take anything but they were parttime and would just get another job or the managers would say you know how kids are. well their customers would come to me and get upset because i followed the rules and they would report me and get their way. i just couldn't win but after being there so many years the pay was good so i couldn't leave but i hated coupons at work and i use them as a refunder. so i know both sides thanks had to vent thanks mel 1|1|I understnad what you are saying but I think what people have issues with|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|12:32:04|10/19/2009|

are the cashiers who refuse a coupon when you have the actual product and followed all of the coupons rules. if it beeps, they do not want to deal with it and just say "Oh well, guess you cant use it"

2|2|my mom has been a cashier for MANY YEARS as well... strangely enough most cashiers are the young people who don't want to "bother" i guess it works both ways..|Jacqui_OHIO|swap-a-holic@juno.com|13:49:08|10/19/2009|

if your patient enough to be nice to the cashier and they are patient enough to scan your coupons the right way.. everyone wins!

but unforunately the cashier is the one who has to deal with the "not so patient angry" customers that are behind the coupon QueenZ/KingZ, once they leave...

..Take a Look through the eyes of another person.. Walk in their shoes.. so to speak..

my hubby usually will turn and say something nice, lik e" can you beleive she just saved us $50" or whatever the amount is. that usually works to keep them quiet. once I said , would you rather i be on food stamps (not that there is anthing wrong with that,we just didnt need them and I feel they should go to the people who truely need them) that shut the nastiest person I ever met at the store right up, the cashier chuckled. 4|1|My view is that...|inthesticks|inthesticks@windstream.net|03:53:07|10/20/2009|

cashiers DO have a responsibility to accurately ring-up coupons. They get paid hourly, and whether a customer has one coupon or a hundred, it's the casheir's job. I do understand that there are problems with some coupons -- some don't scan, older ones may not have barcodes, some may be expired, etc. -- but it's not the responsibility to decide which coupons to accept and which coupons to reject (unless coupons are obviously expired or they are non-manufacture coupons good at other stores, etc.).

The cashiers should simply attempt to ring the coupons up, and set temporarily set aside those that are difficult to handle for some reason, then after all the other coupons are rung up...then call a manager or shift supervisor over to the register for the problem coupons. Sometimes there is attitude from both the cashier and the customer -- but ultimately the cashier should be the one to suck it up and do their job. That is called "customer service".

The store will get their money back on all accepted coupons, plus .08-cents per coupon for handling them...so nobody is out any money.
