Just venting since I am the only big person here and I have no one else to vent to!
Took the youngest 2 kids to the store just a few minutes ago. Middle daughter had seen a toy that she really, really wanted when we were there yesterday (Halloween little pet shop), so I bribed her. Told her that if she cleaned her room super well I would reward her with the toy. She came home and worked and worked and the room is in nice shape again, so we went to the store. It was $7 and I had a pile of OYNO catalinas so I knew I could pay down the cost with them and pay less than a buck. While I was there I figured I would find 3-4 other things I had coupons for too that would be free with the coupons. That's all good.

99% of the cashiers at this store are really wonderful and many of them like to watch me and copy my coupon deals so they can shop cheap too. However there is a man who is semi-new who is not all that supportive. He grumbles and groans, but I have been really trying to win him over and so since his lane was pretty empty I went there.

Everything is fine until I hand him coupons and he makes a face and says "I don't think I can take all these because you have more coupons than items (not true, but I guess if he was counting the store double coupons and my CAT OYNO then perhaps.)
I was using a $2 off apples when you buy lighthouse dip and of course those always beep. That got him flustered. He wound up ringing it 2x.
Next I hand him my OYNO and he says he can only take one.
I stand up to him and ask since when? I am very nice, but I know that stores coupon rules better than he does.
He asks another checker who is not sure (also new).
Finally calls someone who says yes he can take them.
By this time there is a line forming. Lucky for me there is an angel of a man who speaks up and says that he thinks my shopping is great regardless of whether the cashier likes it or not (so it was obvious to everyone around us that the cashier was not liking me much). I thanked him profusely.

Then as we are almost done something really goes haywire because of that darn apple coupon coming off 2x. The register says it owes me $2.98. Uh oh! Mr. Grumpy has to call someone again after loudly insisting that I can't get $ back (which I didn't want, I just wanted to get out of the store with an ounce of my dignity left by this time.) Someone from mgmt comes and takes the money and hands me a receipt. I tried to explain to her what coupon was rung twice and cashier was talking over me about how I had been using "too many coupons" and I don't know what else. We finally leave.

My 9 year old remarked that the cashier didn't like me or my coupons.
Next time I am in there I will look for the night manager who I really like and talk to him about this cashier. And I will avoid his line. If he is the only one open I will ask if he can call someone else to ring me up. I'll be nice about it, but I will not let someone treat me like I am doing something bad for trying to save money.

At least the people behind me in line were all nice!
Okay, now I feel better. Sometimes you just have to get it out!
LOL! Vanessa

1|1|this always happens..people are "STRANGE" when it comes to using coupons they look at you as if your the one in the wrong, (like you stated)|Jacqui_OHIO|swap-a-holic@juno.com|15:58:07|10/18/2009|

but usually when this happens to ME, the people behind me gets REAL ANGRY and just "Want me out of the line" which makes me even more stressed out as i have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder-which is ENOUGH problems in its own) and this makes me CONFUSED and NERVOUS.. which doesn't help to boot!

talking about the coupon thing, i have offered people in front of me coupons for items off things they are ringing up.. and have had people to REFUSE To take them and stare at me like i'm a CRAZY PERSON LOL... the money people could be saving and just don't know it , huh?

OKAY! theres MY VENT LOL

...with coupons, I have had a run-in or two with cashiers who either don't know how to run their registers, or don't know much about coupons or the store's coupon policies (I do, though), or they are ticked off that I have so many coupons that they have to handle, or that I'm a male and have the audacity to use coupons...whatever. I've gotten to where I don't care if it takes all afternoon in that line. I usually warn people in line behind me that I have a wad of coupons and that it might take awhile. Then, I will stand there and watch both the register display and the cashier's handling of the coupons, to make sure he/she rings them up correctly.

It is embarassing to have the cashier cause problems, especially with other people in my line waiting to check-out. However, I'll simply look at them and sigh a couple of times, while the cashier hees and haws around.

Of course, I try to get in a register line that has a young guy at the register. They usually don't stress too much over beeping coupons and stuff. I try to stay away from older men and women and those with certain looks on their faces (because I just know they won't change that look once they see my coupons...hehehe). I usually stay away from Wal-Mart because I've had more problems there with coupons, than any other store. My primary grocery store is Kroger, and Walgreen's comes in second -- usually for non-food items that I have coupons for. 6|2|LOL Cary! I am going to remember that next time...|sunriver|lithiasalt@cheerful.com|10:52:15|10/19/2009|

I know I sure am. :) He's a cashier & thinks it's awesome when customers use coupons, thanks to mom's couponing/refunding . He usually tells me about the good ones some people use or that someone had a whole fistful of coupons so got a big chunk knocked off their total. He'll even compliment the people on their saving savvy. :)

I have a bunch of them that are like that and I flock to them because they make shopping a pleasure. Plus when the cashier is positive many times the people behind me in line get all excited too. They always ask me how much I am saving and there is this whole fun "buzz" in the air. That is the best!

I have to walk over to Safeway later this morning and will see if I get any flack from anyone else. I doubt it. I kind of suspect that he won't last there very long unless he changes a little bit. I've seen it happen before so I am holding out a little hope for the guy. LOL!
Vanessa

10|3|Vanessa, that is so true....if the cashier remains calm and pleasant, those in line seem to stay pleasant and patient too.....most times than not, I get someone behind me that says "I want to see how much you save after you use all those coupons!" And then I look at what they have up on the belt to see if I can share some of my coupons with them....it seems the excitement and positive attitude are contagious, lol.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:18:12|10/19/2009|

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
