Tonight was the HS's last football game of the year and homecoming. My son is in the marching band, and during homecoming they don't perform at half time, they have their final performance after the game.
So, the game ends and the band is in position on the field. My DH is across the bleachers talking to some guys and I am sitting in the second row with my 10 year old. Suddenly, I'm hit from behind my somebody and a body lands at my son's feet and hits the railing head first. My son starts crying because in about 10 seconds there is a huge puddle of blood at his feet.
It looks like a small child and the man who landed on me is screaming oh no, oh my god. I thought he'd dropped his kid, but it turns out it was a 77 year old woman, the mother of one of my friends and my son's friend's grandmother.
The husband (who landed on me) is trying to pick her up, but a doctor ran over and stopped him. He asked for a scarf or something to stop the bleeding and I gave him my DH's which I was wearing. They asked if anybody had a blanket and I handed that over. My son is still crying and we are surrounded by people and can't get out.
The principal and security cleared out the stands around us and after about 10 minutes my son and I got away from there. All this time the kids in the band are standing on the field with no idea what's going on, just told they can't play. Finally when the ambulance arrived they had the band students leave the field quietly and return to the band room. The kids were very disappointed to miss their final performance of the year but understood. The lady was the grandmother of two kids in the band, and they had no idea what was happening til the band was pulled from the field.
I was so busy trying to comfort my son, and now that he is in bed it is hitting me. It was pretty traumatic, I don't know how my son managed to fall right asleep, but I bet he wakes up during the night. He kept saying that they need railings on the stairs and that it could have been his grandpa who'd fallen coz my dad usually comes to the games and has a lot of trouble walking, he's almost fallen but usually me and DH walk in front of him so he sort of hits us and we balance him.
Anyway, I know I'm going to be up a while, every time I am not doing something I see that lady lying in all that blood!

hope the 77 year old grandmother will be OK. She must've lost her footing on the way down the bleachers. I don't like them myself as I'm always afraid I'll fall. As for your son, he will be fine. 2|2|Sue, did anyone say if the lady is okay? Heard anymore of her condition? That was very sad to hear of anyone falling like that.. She had a concussion, broken nose, and needed stitches on her forehead and face, but is doing good and out of the hospital.
