20 0|0|Hubby's job ends in December :(|couponshelmd|couponshel@comcast.net|16:25:36|10/08/2009|

My hubby's boss told him that he will not be able to stay in business past this December. I have been sick to my stomach since Friday because I cannot get this off of my mind. I just took a part time weekend job two weeks ago (I am a museum aide and truly love the job!) to try to get us ready for the heating oil costs/Christmas for our boys. Hubby has worked for his boss for over 15 years now, it is like his best friend, he evens commutes 160 miles per day to keep that job.

The truly horrible part for us now is that he also cut his pay by $400 per week until he closed shop in December. That means I am $1,600 (net pay) less for this month than our budget and ummmm, hate to say this, but our savings account just filled our heating oil tank. We have small kids and I don't want them to be cold.

Sigh, I know so many of us are in the same boat but if anyone has some spare prayers, please say one for my family! It will help! Right now my prayer is for hubby to find a job closer to home... less commuting costs plus then we can sell my car and go down to one vehicle.

Thanks for any prayers!! :)

You and family are in my prayers. Don't think of your mom's actions as charity, but rather just love in action. We're all here to help one another, or at least that is how it should be. There is no shame or embarrassment in that.

Hugs to you today. V.

I did not remember ever hearing the name Pat; there was one guy from Poly Tech and I thought it might be him but I racked my brains and realized that kid was named Dominick. Strange how my mind will recall random stuff like a name from so long ago but I cannot remember why I went upstairs until I get back down :)

Hugs,
Shel

Somehow, someway though you will get through this speed bump and it will work out.

at least hubby has a warning and can start looking now for a job, it was nice the boss told him, most places let you know the day they close the door.

Good Luck on the yard sale - hope you get rid of everything

We are trying not to get too excited, but hubby has a job interview on Monday night! He has not been getting full hours for the past few weeks plus the cut in pay has truly affected us. Hoping he gets this new job; his boss already told him that he will probably just close shop when my hubby leaves, so I don't think he even wants a two week notice.

Part of our problem is that the pay near our home is so low; and hubby has been commuting 160 miles per day since we moved here over 4 years ago; we have agreed that the only way to do things is for him to continue to work out of state. We are getting our home ready to sell, hoping we can wait til Spring. We will then move closer to his job... and SIGH... closer to his family again. Darn it! That would put us over an hour away from my sister/best friend and that makes us all sad, plus she is the only person we trust to babysit the boys.

Hoping that God shows us an answer even if it is not the path I wanted to travel... that is not up to me! 17|3|lots of prayers , fingers crossed|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|10:11:56|11/06/2009|

working closer to home at less money worked the same as we were saving so much in gas and ware and tear on the car have you done this yet to see if that wopuld be the same? 20|4|Yes, keep "re-dong" the math :) even with the new job|couponshelmd|couponshel@comcast.net|11:53:46|11/06/2009|

it will depend on the salary offer and whether or not there are benefits. We would SO much like for him to get a job near home but it would be at 1/3 of his salary and then even if I go to work Full Time, we would need to pay for daycare for our two little monkeys (so not much of a profit there). We would need to sell our home at that point, and move into a campground which is not really an option for me if we can avoid that from happening. My part time job is working out extremely well and folks that don't really want their weekend hours and been asking me to cover for them (and the supervisor herself asked me to cover a shift on Thanksgiving weekend for her, so they have a lot of faith in me).

We have cut a lot of our monthly expenses... cell phones down to lowest plan (we don't have a home phone, has been over 3 years since we needed one); called to cut the cable to basic and was going to go to DSL internet, however the cable company gave us a REALLY good 6 month deal. I know people say the internet is not a necessity but I have a small Avon business and it would be difficult to take the boys to the library with me to enter all of my orders... it would work on my nerves; cut our grocery bills even farther with a few more coupon trades, and God has been sending little Angels our way all the time).

It drives me insane, really, somedays I sit with a calculator and just keep figuring out ... "if gas gets to more than $3.00, this would be best" and then "if gas gets to $4.00 this scenario works" and then "if he gets this job on Monday for $xx per year, and we can sell our house for a $xx profit, we should move" CRAZY THOUGHTS going on here ha ha

Thanks to all!
Shel
