i got a phone call from a recovery place and i asked them how they got my cell phone number
and they said they got it from U S Cellular
are places like that supposed to give out your number to places like that ??????????
if so what can be done about making a complaint about it all ????
any help would be helpful
i think the older i get the grouchier i get with some things

the place they say they are collecting for has not account for me any more
it is an old one way back 1999
and i told the lady i thot that was going on my credit report after all this time
she said it was on my report for years and is now off
i told her i never saw it anywhere
so i wonder if she lied to me
so geez just leave me alone
when i talk to counselor tomorrow i am going to bring that up for the bankruptcy too and see what they have to say about that tooo

debt collectors are NOT allowed to call a person at work UNLESS the person has given them permission to do so cuz it can cause problems for the person in the workplace or possibly get him/her fired. Also, if you tell them to stop calling, they are obligated by law to stop cuz it can be considered harassment if they continue. Get a notebook & document, document, document. Keep a notebook & write down the date/time & number if known that they call from & whether or not they leave a message. If no number known & no message left, make a note of that too.
But if my cell phone carrier was divulging my # w/out my permission, rest assured I'd be calling them to do some major a$$-chewing & letting them know I was considering switching cell phone providers! To me, that would be like my reg. phone co. giving out my landline phone # to some total stranger just cuz they'd asked. And yes, I would be extremely irate. We can't even walk into our landline phone co. here anymore & inquire about our own bill w/out a pin # & showing proof of I.D. When my sister & her dh got their landline phone disconnected awhile back for non-payment, the phone co. wouldn't even allow him to pay it to get it re-connected cuz the phone/bill was in HER name only, so they refused to even take the check from him that my sister had written out/signed. LOL It may seem like kind of a pain in the arse but I understand the reasoning behind it being for our own protection. ;)
I just read on my IP provider's public bulletin board's Gen. Discussion forum that a landlord had ordered an elect./water/sewer co. to shut off the utilities to a rental unit he owned despite the utilities being in the tenant's name & up-to-date. Again, that is a big no-no cuz even if the landlord wants the people out, & even IF the utilities were in his own name, he MUST go thru the proper eviction procedures & can NOT order the utilities to be shut off on the tenant. Around here, ONLY a judge can evict someone so both the landlord & the utility co. are going to be on hot water (pardon the pun) for that!
