I've been having a bad week. My son is mostly recovered from his injury, but I am paying for an MRI, bunch of xrays and doctor visits. Back in March we got new insurance, and they wouldn't pay for a colposcopy for me in June after an abnormal pap smear(said it was pre-existing). That darn thing is costing over $1000 between all the various bills which are just now coming in as denied by the insurance. We have a $5000 deductible, then have to pay 20% of everything after that. I arranged to make small monthly payments of $50 to 6 different places for the test and my son's stuff, that was hard enough to squeeze out, now I have to have a hysterectomy. I go Tuesday for an ultrasound, they want $2200 for just that, I told them we have to arrange payments. And of course the operation will be super expensive since I have to stay overnight in the hospital. I think we will definitely meet our deductible this year! Unfortunately, that means I have to come up with more money for each of these bills. And I have a real problem with hospital stays, I get hysterical and just lose it. The last time I actually had to stay the night, I was up all night vomiting and crying. They even let me out within hours of having my babies because they could tell that it was not a good idea for me to be there. I was so upset it wasn't helping my kids.

My DH was in the process of taking over a martial arts school. For months he has been working there for free, teaching classes, trying to drum up business. The plan had been when it was making enough to cover expenses and a bit over, we would take it over and make payments to the owner. Well, he can't keep covering the expenses here, so wants us to take over now or he will close it. My DH wanted to take money from our 401K and a business loan to cover six months, til it started making money. I said no way, and now he is depressed and blaming me for not letting him do this. He was so excited and sure he was going to make money on this, and now his work was all for nothing. The man hasn't made up his mind yet, but now my DH doesn't want to push for new students in case it closes, so there's no way we can make it work. We were trying to get permission to send home flyers to the local schools, but despite all our volunteering at them, they told us no way. I think that was the last straw, we just don't know how else to get more students.

Oh and we were planning to go to Florida this year (our first vacation in 4 years) but my surgery is scheduled 2 weeks before that, and I can't go. The doctor only had 2 dates this year she could fit me in, that one and two weeks before Christmas, and we need to do it this year so we don't start a new deductible. This was going to be a cheap vacation, drive there, staying free with in-laws and already have Disney tickets we bought several years ago that still have days on them. I have to tell my kids the vacation is off again.

I am hoping that the reason you need to have the hysterectomy isn't cancer. I will definetely be keeping you and your family in my prayers. If there is any way that I can help (other than sending money), PLMK. We are all having a tough time lately, but better days are ahead. Just hang in there!!

With your surgery have you thought that maybe it maybe better to wait till the begining of the year ? Here is how I see it ( maybe I'm off on it but who knows) Since your deductable is so high and we are so close to the end of the year trying to meet your deductable is mute If you have the op in the first part of the year it will be over and the rest of the year will be easier on the medical bills because you will be meeting your deductable earlier I mean since you need to meet it for things to get better bill wise if you have it now meeting your deductable in say nov won't help as long as meeting it in the beginging of a year kwim?
Now with the flyer thing since we are in the time of the year where there are tons of festivals aroung find some that will allow the karate school to do a demo where people can sign up and you can hand the flyers out you can also talk to wm and other stores in your area and see if you can set up a table or two in front of the store handing out flyers make sure you dress in the garb and if you can have the youngest and maybe oldest in the school there to show how anyone can do it also people are suckers for lil kids lol
hope this helps
good luck 3|1|Sue, real quick before I lose my train of thought.....it sounds like whoever submitted the colonoscopy to your insurance didnt bill it with the correct billing code....an abnormal pap wouldnt have anything to do with a colonoscopy (not directly anyway)....you didnt give your age, but if you are over 40, a colonoscopy should be considered 'well care' or 'preventative care'....so that should have been coded as such. Call the hospital where you had the colonoscopy and ask them if they can resubmit with the correct coding!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|14:28:57|10/02/2009|

Not a colonscopy, it is a test that they do after an abnormal pap smear, it was related. Thanks, I know the other is unrelated, but this was. They actually don't cover any "reproductive" treatment for 6 months under the policy.

I am so sorry to hear this and will be praying for you and your family. I totally can relate to medical expenses, we have no insurance and have to pay cash for everything, the prices are ridiculous. I hope everything works out for you and that your surgery goes well. I will be thinking about you. Hugs, Rebekka

I don't have any words of wisdom, but I just wanted to tell you to hang in there. I know it seems like you have a lot on your plate to deal with, but things just have to get better.

I'm just sorry!

Well, the martial arts school thing is up in the air, the owner can't decide if he is going to close it or not. Makes my DH not want to sign up new students in case it does close, but it may end up working out after all. And we've found a place he can have classes really cheap if it does close, so that's good.

My surgery has been postponed til December, coz my dad is having back surgery the week I was going to do mine, so I pushed it back. And since we are driving down and staying free at BIL's place, and already have Disney tickets, we are taking our vacation anyway.

But, the insurance company is hemming and hawing on if this will be covered or not. Seems they don't cover anything "reproductive" for 6 months, and I was diagnosed too soon, so they are going back and forth on whether they will consider it preexisting or not. And my Dr. wants me to have a bunch of tests to make sure I can have the surgery, so more money!

I went for pre-surgery medical clearance and my dr. said I was too early, but noticed that my thyroid looks very enlarged, he noticed it as soon as he walked into the room. So now he is sending me for a thryoid ultrasound and scan & uptake (whatever that is). I'm hoping that nothing is wrong or something really minor, coz the thought of another surgery just freaks me out!

And I found that once I reach my deductible, we have to pay 20% still, not fully covered once the deductible is hit, so I don't even want to figure out what I am going to owe after all this junk is done
