So I fed him (I know, I know) left him a red pear 2 days ago and then left another this am because they were going soft and I figured it would be better than tossing. as I was painting the kitchen I look out the window and he is perched on the back step (when he moved in) eating away at the pear. I did get a pic but will have to post tomarrow. He goes into the space between the steps and peaks out.

Black bears have been sighted around here periodically too, mostly around pastures &/or woodsy areas, but a few were close to residences/highways. Since I have a farm & pasture/fields/woods across from my backyard, I do wonder if one might venture into my sight. I guess if it gets hungry enough it might. Black bears are prone to be more afraid of us. However, I'm not inclined to find out I might be wrong. LOLOL

if you let that groundhog live there, you are going to be very sorry most likely. Groundhogs are the scurge of most people who get them. Reason is they burrow..alot. They undermine the ground under your home...or barn..or even the dikes holding back rivers etc. It weakens the ground ..or dike..then the structure above (or dike) collapses. They cause major, major damage.
Are they cute and fun to watch? Sure. Are they worth it in terms of lots of money to repair your home, barn ...or possible loss of life (case in point if dike collapses and it floods)..certainly not. As long as they are living out in the woods in their burrows it's fine but definately would get this critter live trapped and relocated far far away from your home/buildings.
