I am going to try to lose 20 pounds after hacing my 4th child and in my 40's......... I am done with breastfeeding after next week she was fed for 1 year and 4 months. I'm really afraid to use all these pills on the market because you tend to hear all the damage tey do when it's already too late.

How about starting w/eliminating your sweets. Drink only water and start walking w/a friend. That will help. It's a start. Then introduce veggies and fruit. I just eliminated all my pasta's. lol No soda, juices or fruit flavored waters. You'll be amazed. Baby steps....

And it's not worth the health risks either. One thing i did learn after i stopped breastfeeding (unfortunately it wasn't until AFTER I gained weight) that you will need to watch your calorie intake. You won't need as many calories as you did while you were breast feeding. if you don't cut back you WILL gain more weight.................... it happened to me. right now I'm averaging 1/2 a lb a week in weight loss and I know that's not great but it's not bad either. We KNOW that diet pills are absolutely unsafe.

Especially for people with any kind of health problems already. Diet pills are sooo dangerous for people taking medication for high blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid problems, etc.

I did the phen-fen for 3 months back in the 90's and now have a heart condition. Not worth it!

I had my kids at 37 and 39 - what worked for me was Buns of Steel Postpartum workout and tracking EVERYTHING I ate. And I mean EVERY bite - you bite it, you write it. No cheating! LOL

Now that I am in my late 40's, what works best for me is cutting carbs. Exercise-wise - walking fast, then doing crunches. I got a treadmill on FreeCycle, so that helps! I try to do arm weights while sitting at the computer. I hate upper arm flab and need to keep my "bat wings" to a minimum, LOL!

one where your spouse and kids get a puppy when you work nights and they all work/go to school during the day. Walking the dog to get her tired was the only way I got any sleep. Now the dog greets me at the door every morning and off we go. lost 7 pounds in a couple of months and am un my best shape since I was a kid.

but I hate plain old water unless is really cold. I can however drink it at any temperature with Crystal Light mixes. They are really good and will help you drink lots of water without even knowing it. I found that the more water I drank the fuller I felt and when it was time to eat I would eat less.

I'll probably get alot of boo's but.................I lost 52 lbs. in 8 months. All I did was, follow the diet to the "T". Only cheated a few times. Did minimal exercise, could have lost alot more if I did it more. Drank alot of water. I had my cholesteral checked often because of the possibility that it would raise it. All worked out wonderful. i know a lot of people like the atkins diet and south beach as well BUT most who end up having health problems with these types of diets are ones who did not consult their Dr first. It is imparative, before starting a strict diet such as these that you talk to your Dr. I'd hate for something terrible to happen to your health because you shouldn't have been on this type of diet in the first place or because your body couldn't handle this type of diet. kwim? I'm 54 and have been overweight all my life and nothing has ever worked until I tried this from my health/diet clinic. Pills are only a temporary fix but switching over to a healthier life style and losing it gradually, is better and long lasting. I couldn't believe how easy it was after all these years!!! Since March, i've lost 40 pounds just by doing these things and if you're careful to consume enough good carbs a day, you won't even go hungry!!!

Write in a journal so you can keep your carb counts & see what you can improve on
Limit your carbs to no more then 130 net carbs a day
Drink 64oz of water a day
Get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day plus 5,000 steps on a pedometer at day at least 6 times a wk.
No salt, no soda, no white stuff like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread
Eat LOADS of veggies and if you do eat fruit, always put a lean protein with it.

4 shakes a day, 1 bar and for dinner a frozen diet meal tv dinner. It is very expensive though but does work. Its a 12 week program and and if you follow it the average person looses 52lbs... You can get this on amazon and ebay... this is not sold in stores just through a nutritionist..(or where listed..) they have a website www.optifast.com if you want to check into it.

Pills don't work on most people especially if you have alot of weight to loose... Remember even if a pill helps you loose 20lbs or so its not going to stay off unless you change your life style..

My doctor suggested that DH and I try the Atkins diet. Cutting carbs is the only thing that has ever worked for us.

We do it the smart way: lots of green vegetables, lean meat, whole grain bread (very little), some fruits (cantaloupe and berries).

You gotta at least TRY and eat healthier if you really want to lose weight.. I forgot to mention two things... no sugar... its in almost anything you buy so I read lables real well and I forgot to mention that a net carb is.. well, when you read a label if it says the carb is 8, then you look at the fiber count and subtract that.. so if the fiber is 2, your net carb count is actually 6, not 8...

First I want to say that I totally understand where you are coming from. A year ago I started on the same path (last daughter was weaned and I faced up to the fact that I had 50 pounds I really need to shed.) At first I was super gung ho exercising daily and counting calories (sparkpeople.com is a super great site!) and within a short time I dropped 30 lbs. My problem was that I could not keep up with the level that I was doing (average 2 hrs a day cardio and walking and it was rare that I was even skipping one day a week), so I put 15 pounds back on in about 6 months or so. Summer was ending and I had to face myself again and realize that I need to re-focus.

So here is what works for me so far...
I have a Ab lounge that I like to use since after 4 c-sections my stomach muscles are non-existant. I had it all folded up in the corner, but I now have it in the living room taking up a huge amount of space. I have to climb over the darn thing to get into the bathroom, so I am using it again.

I misplaced my favorite DVD which is Biggest Loser cardio. I found that was the best for me. I may wind up buying another copy-- that is how much I like that one!

Pretzel sticks are a good snack (watch labels, because some are about 100 calories and 0 fat for something like 35-40 pretzel sticks! I like a snack that I can eat more than 30 of!)

Dollar Tree sells these caramel corn rice cakes (I HATE rice cakes! They are tastemorr brand in a yellow bag), but my sister gave me these and made me try them and they are pretty good. 0 fat and 50 calories each, so a nice way to eat something and not break the bank. Which gets me to my other coping mechanism. I started viewing my calorie intake as something like my bank account. I can have 1200 cal a day, and so every mouthful is written down and counted. When I have "spent" my calories I am all done for the day which is why I like the snacks that I can work in so that I stay full.

I have 35 to go. It may take me another full year, but I know that as long as I make positive changes every day I will get there and you will too. I do know that if you try to cut everything out all at once , it back fires big time!!!

Keep drinking lots of water. If you can , without anything added in Crystal light etc..I recently read an article that said the down fallof many people dieting is drinking diet sodas and drinks. it tricks your bogy into thinking it is getting sugar and actually stores whateve fat or glucose (sugar) you consumed. It made alot of sense when I read it. also, because the diet stuff is sweet tasting your body craves sweets, making you more likely to eat soemthing higher in calories. the article suggested you save a diet soda or ?? as a treat once a day, when you want soemthing sweet.

Walking really helps, and what better motivation than having a dog and little one :-D

either put on a headset radio or use your radio or a cd that has fast music of any kind you like on it and dance start w/ a min or two and gradually increase the time
this is an exercise that is fun, free and adjustable to your schedule. Along w/a sensible diet, lots of water all that good stuff and you will lose weight. love marion 40|2|Hi I am going to lose the weight first and then I am going to exercise with the weight I want. skipping breakfast is a big no no and not eating less than 1,000 calories a day is another big no no. i hope it all works out for you though! :)

When school is out I walk every day but weekends and I walked 5 miles.
