28 0|0|Anyone here take Glucosamine for joint health?|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|09:10:57|09/10/2009|
If so, about how long did you take it before noticing a difference, good/bad? Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)
Please identify yourself in 1st email w/name/username. Due to recent problem trades, if I haven't traded w/you before, I will probably require you send your end 1st or I'll need LEGIT trade references/feedback. I will be happy to provide the same. IF you plan to hold your end til you've received mine, I will need to know that IMMEDIATELY, BEFORE trade is finalized.

3|2|D3 is a form of vitamin D - info inside|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|09:24:02|09/10/2009|
vitamin D is actaully made up od Vitamin D2 & D3, D3 is the type that absorbs into our skin fron UV light. It is showing up on labels but really has been in the products. formula companies do the same thing. It makes people believe it is better for them when they add the items to the label.
here is a really good link to check some more info. Info on Wikipedia is good, can be a bit wordy sometimes if you arent into healthcare lingo but overall have great info, (just pass over the wordy stuff)

2|1|hubby took it and noticed a difference in about 3 months|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|09:16:01|09/10/2009|
however, we were at a specialist a few weeks ago and he said the stuff really does not do anything for the price you pay. I dont know anyone who had great results but I think evryone is different so you need to find out for yourself. would be interested in hearing if it worked or not because of what the doc said. I never bought into the whole thing, shark cartlige included. I think you would do better with calcium & vitamin D suppliments (just MO ). hubby stopped taking it after few months so dont know any long time personal results 4|2|Thank you! :) (m)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|09:51:08|09/10/2009|
I'm not into the shark cartilage bit either but I had a bone density test last week & it came back that my bones are somewhat on the thin side, likely cuz of Depo & family history. I asked if that's why my hips seem to bother me when walking any type of distance & was told I could try Glucosamine as it's for joints. I love the sun & drink alot of milk but 1,000mg of Vit. D3 was also recommended due to the results of my bone test. When I was looking for this yesterday, I found bottles of reg. Vit. D & then the Vit. D3, but I'm wondering what the difference between the 2 is? I get these at the Dollar store so they're not as expensive, but the nurse said my dr. can write me a scrip for them on my next visit....

6|3|you should really take calcium with it also - more info inside|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|10:12:17|09/10/2009|
vitamin D absorbs better when taken with calcium, in your case I am suprsised they didnt tell you to increase your calcium also. unless you are laready taking calcium. it is better to take 1/2 in the am & 1/2 in the pm for better absorbption. you can get the calcium with vitamin D3 in the same pill to save $$$$. I usually get it at cvs or rite aid when they have the B1G1 deals and use coupons. nature made usually has coupons out all the time plus if you do the online registery (you put in the codes from each botlle) you can get $5 & $7 off coupons which make it even better
7|4|one more tid bit to share|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|10:15:33|09/10/2009|
take the vitamin D with OJ so better absorption :). 8|4|No mention of calcium yet but (m)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|10:53:44|09/10/2009|
Maybe at my next dr. visit my dr. will suggest it. If not, I'll ask. See, I think the Depo shots are probably interferring w/my body's ability to absorb calcium so maybe that's why they didn't mention calcium?
I believe I paid $3.25 for the Advanced Glucosamine Chondroitin Complex - brand is Healthsense & 60 coated tablets. It was $4 for the Vit. D3 2000mg (I split them in half) - brand is Rexall & 100 tablets. Pretty reasonable @ Dollar General pricing. :) But if my dr. can write a scrip for them, my insurance will cover it so I'll have just maybe the co-payment.

10|5|my sister had the same issue|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|11:02:58|09/10/2009|
from the Depro shots but they did have her taking the calcium at the same time because it robs the body of calcium. the Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium so it does make sense they want you to take it. I would call the office and check instead of waiting unless your appt is soon. they can always call in a prescription for you while you have them on the phone.
Rexall brand is good. :). they still have a ReXall pharmacy when my Mommy lives...LOL..country town 14|6|Going to have to inquire a bit more about this w/my dr. LOL|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|11:23:06|09/10/2009|
It was a specialist who put me on the Depo about 12-15 yrs. ago & altho noone's ever mentioned to me about it interferring w/bone density, I'd read about it myself once a long time ago & guess I never thought much more about it. My family dr. I have is excellent but is not the one who put me on the Depo. I've had this family dr. for just the past 6-7 yrs. Since this issue is a new one tho, he won't authorize a scrip w/out seeing me in person, as he is adamant about discussing any new issues in person w/his patients. My next appt. is a little over a month away so not too far. ;)

9|1|I have had great success with Glucosamine|Arizona|vbj48@cox.net|10:55:39|09/10/2009|
My joints used to be so sore that I could hardly get into my husband's truck without cringing with pain. It took a few months before I saw the results but it has been remarkable for me. I will continue with this product because it works for me.
I also take Calcium w/Vitamin D along with my multiple vitamin and fish oil gel tab for my heart.
My last bone scan indicated that my bone density has remained good for my age. 11|2|glad to hear this but I wonder|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|11:06:21|09/10/2009|
Is it the Glucosamine or the calcium & Vitamin D that is working. OR is it the combo of both. I find the whole thing interesting as what really works.there are so many elderly people that could benefit and not suffer so much
Our vet had us giving it to our dog for hip pain and it seemed to help him . labs are notorius for hip and joint problems. because they are always on the go. 12|3|I have taken Calcium pills for many years.|Arizona|vbj48@cox.net|11:10:54|09/10/2009|
But when I added the Glucosamine, my joint pain went away. 13|4|Nice to know :0|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|11:13:28|09/10/2009|
thanks for sharing your experience, it helps 15|2|Thank you Vicki! :)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|11:32:10|09/10/2009|
I'm kind of bummed it'll take a little while but I'm glad to hear you had good results, & I hope I will too. :) I'm hoping 1 or the other, or both, will not only help the hip pain I feel when walking much, but also, the stiffness in my feet/ankles. I don't notice anything in my knees much but when I 1st wake up in the morning, my feet/ankles seem to feel so stiff for awhile. And altho it sounds silly, one of my big toes has been bothering me off & on for a few months now. At 1st I thought it was gout but have been leaning more towards arthritis as it's affected by cold. Since it seems to be mostly around the joint connecting to my foot, maybe these supplements will help w/all of these things. I hope! LOL

16|3|Osteo-biflex worked wonders for DH!|KellyJef|burke3536@yahoo.com|17:29:49|09/10/2009|
DH had knee surgery scheduled at the VA hospital because the pain had gotten so bad.
When he went for his pre-op bloodwork, the technician told Tom that if he was him, he would postpone the surgery, try Osteo-Biflex Triple Advanced for 3 months and see if it helped because he had a ton of patients for whom Osteo-Biflex Triple Advanced had proven to give amazing results.
That was almost 3 years ago :) DH never did have the surgery.
I have been taking it, too, since I had sometimes suffered from pain in my knees (but not enough to even consider surgery) and have noticed a huge decrease in pain :)
It's pretty expensive, but obviously cheaper than surgery!

23|1|Just 1 more question, about the Glucosamine....|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|08:46:38|09/11/2009|
How much do/did you take a day? The bottle I have says 1500mg MSM & to take 3 tablets w/meals ONCE a day. On the directions, it also says it is recommended that if taking other dietary supplements (Vit. D3?), to take the Glucosamine at a different time of day. I took just 1 tablet on Weds. & yesterday, I took 3 then but spaced them apart - took 1 in the morning about 9 w/a light breakfast, took the 2nd one w/my noon lunch & took the 3rd w/my supper. Took the 1 D3 tablet about a half hour after taking the 2nd Glucosamine.
But do I need to take 3, since it's recommended, or will 1-2 suffice? Good land tho, they're HUGE tablets! LOL

24|2|When one of my patients has Glucosamine ordered, it is always with the daily dosage given at one time (most common dose ordered is three capsules)...and they may have them recommended to be taken at a different time than other supplements such as calcium or vitamins due to absorption factors (sometimes when you take two things at the same time, one of those meds may cancel out the other due to blocking absorption into the bloodstream).|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|08:50:11|09/11/2009|

I guess I'll take the Glucosamine horse pills in the morning then to get it over with (LOL) & wait til noon lunch to take the Vit. D3. I just hate taking all these pills. Sheesh!

26|3|Take all 3 at the same time|petunia1|sweetpea39@comcast.net|10:00:04|09/11/2009|
you will not get the same effects from the medicine if you seperate them or only take 2. you were right to wait to take the vitamin D later. It might make it easier to always take them the same time eah day so you wont forget, especially if yo are taking other meds 27|4|Thank you! :) |maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|10:12:58|09/11/2009|
Yes, I have other meds I take 1st thing in the early morning so will take the Glucosamine a couple hrs. later w/my breakfast (having that shortly) & take the Vit. D3 a few hrs. later w/my noon lunch. I just hate taking all these pills & call it "astronaut food" as I now know what they feel like. ;)

28|1|In the beginning I followed the recommended dosage|Arizona|vbj48@cox.net|12:39:27|09/11/2009|
but now that I have taken it for so long, I have been able to cut down to 1 tablet per day. I think it has probably built up in my system. And, that is a good thing!
My joint pain also was in my hips and feet. I am amazed at how much better I feel since I have been taking it.
I sure hope you get relief quickly.
