FOr the last year or two I have been doing my own hair to save money. Well, the last time I colored it, I went with black (my natural shade is a very dark brown, almost black) coz I've been doing red for the last year or soa nd wanted a change. Today I decided to color again and go back to red. Well, I have bright red roots, nothing at all like the color I usually get, and the rest is still black. It looks really dumb. My question, what can I do to fix it? I know I shouldn't color again for a bit, but how soon before I can do it? Can I cover it with a dark brown, or do I need to go to the hairdresser to strip some of the black before I can get back to another color? My hair is fairly long, so it's not like I can wait to grow it out.

Any advice would be great!

after I was scolded (frequently) by my sister who does hair, we stripped the base color before putting on the new color. each time you color it takes hold and really only the roots are growing out. I made the mistake of coloring the entire hair each time and eventually it got really dark on me. you can get the color remover from any hair color section.. I think there is one product called Ooopppss or something like that. you need to remove the old color before you redo it with a new one.

your hair is going to be dry so make sure you get a good conditioner (leave intype) that will add moisturize back to the hair folicles. then use a conitioner every time you shampoo that is made specifically for colored hair.

hope it helps!!

p.s. to do this at a saloon willbe at least $75 or more just to get the color out 2|2|Thanks|dragonmom|sueedelmann@yahoo.com|18:00:07|09/08/2009|

I will go in search of something that strips the color.

3|2|So, youre not supposed to color all the hair when you color it?? Just the roots?? Wont that look funny?? I color at home about once every 3-4 months just to cover grays, but I do all the hair as the grays are interspersed and I didnt want one color at the areas with concentrated gray hair, and a different color elsewhere....the color I use is as close to my natural color as I can get.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|18:03:09|09/08/2009|

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

but for those of use that have alot more whites...LOL...you should just do the top a few times and then the whole head every 3 to 4 months when the color starts to fade. if you are coloring every 3 to 4 weeks then definitely only the top part using the same color each time.

my hair grows really fast so I think that is what made a difference for me, plus I had a darker color than my natural color so after a few times it got really dark. fine hair grabs the color faster than thick hair so that also makes a difference. 5|4|So I'm ok sticking with my current routine until I get more gray, lol....it's more now than a year ago even, so it wont be long and I'll have to follow your instructions :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|19:35:54|09/08/2009|
