My kids and I are doing our volunteer work again of cooking a dinner at Ronald Mc DOnald house. So far we are making chili, rice, lasagna and a baked bean casserole Any ideas on a few other dishes that aren't too hard and cheap ?

Crab salad (imitation crab of course for us frugal refunders. LOL). I make crab salad w/just rotini or rigatoni pasta, torn up pieces of imitation crab, Miracle Whip, some diced onion & a bit of celery salt (I don't care much for celery except for plain w/pnut butter). You can add shredded or diced cheese chunks to it if you like. Crab salad has always been a big hit for me & makes me seem "elite" to boot. LOL

Another cheap & easy way w/the scalloped potatoes is to add diced wieners instead of ham, but I agree w/Joy on the kielbasa as diced kielbasa is also really good in scalloped potatoes. I use cream of chicken soup in hotdishes tho as it seems to give it more flavor than cream of mushroom. I occasionally make mac & cheese & add diced wieners, kielbasa or spam to it, or sometimes cooked hamburger. It's yummy & helps stretch it.

A double or triple batch of a jello salad is always good this time of year too, & is very easy. You can always add canned fruit (drained) to liven it up a bit. I make a mean fruit salad using just Jell-O Vanilla or Banana Cream instant pudding (per box direactions), mini marshmallows & mixed fruit (canned/drained well). I usually double the batch & add an additional small can of orange segments & diced pineapple. I get a big can of the Tropical Mixed Fruit at Dollar General for a $1 as I prefer that to Fruit Cocktail. The double batch always seems to be plenty but you can certainly triple it. Just make sure to drain the canned fruit good lest the salad get "soupy". It's very yummy! :)

Geez! Just had supper 3 hrs. ago but now I'm getting hungry again. LOL Been awhile since I've made a couple of these things so now I'm getting a hankering for them. LOL

you can also do the chili and have white rice and spaghetti noodles so they can either have the chili plain or over rice or chili spaghetti. also sloppy joes go a long way. macaroni and cheese, beans and hot dogs or pigs in a blanket. barbq meatballs or meatball sandwiches. i take 2 boxes of macaroni and cheese and add 1 can of tuna and a can of peas and make tuna and noodles and my kids always loved it and still do even though they are grown. 7|4|How do you cook kielbasi? if your going to mix it in something i would cook it a little first and get most of the grease off of it and then add it to whatever you are cooking
