Hi, I have a few things on Ebay, Ive sold off and on for years. I have never done a buy it now, because if I remember correctly they charge an extra fee for that. I had someone contact me about one of my current auctions. They want me to revise it and change it to a Buy it Now. First, can I do that? I know you can revise but can you change it to buy it now? Second, I really dont want to. I kinda feel like what they offered to pay is a little low but then Im afraid that the auction just wont go as high as they offered. lol Soo. If I decide to just say no, what would be a polite way to tell them? Thanks!!

First off, you have to cancel the current auction and start a new one with the buy it now option. I know the insertion fee for the buy it now is .35, the insertion fee a regular auction depends on what you started it at (if at .99, I know it's .15). I'm not sure about the final value fee though, if it's the same for both or not.

I don't usually take people up on their buy it now offers 'cause I figure they are thinking that it is going to sell for a higher amount than they're offering and they're just hoping they'll catch ya desperate for money. You take a chance in that you don't know if it will end up selling, let alone for the price you want....but I guess you have to weigh out how desperate you are for money and how likely it is to sell at a price you want (you can do an advanced search for your item and check off "completed listings" and it will show you how much the item has sold for recently. It will give you an idea of how likely it is to even sell because it shows the auctions that sold and didn't sell).

I just usually respond, "Thank you for your offer, but I prefer to let the auction ride out until the end" or something like that.

Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.

Lauren

I looked up the final value fee. Without knowing what the item is and about how much you expect it to sell for, it is hard to compare which is cheaper: auction or fixed price. The fixed price has fees that vary based on the purchase price PLUS based on what kind of category the item being sold is in (computers, clothing, etc)

I had someone contact me and ask if they could pay with a postal money order. I only have paypal in my listing. They have perfect feedback @ 193, so I think it would be ok. Do I need to revise my auction or just send them an invoice with my addy to send the payment to and not worry about the pp reminder in Ebay? Thank you so much!!

You can accept other payment methods in certain categories, like the motors category and some business and industrial. They look like big ticket items to me.

The categories are listed here:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html

I took a 7 month break from selling on ebay - I've been selling since 1998 and when I got back on there, I had to change all my ads to list that I can only accept paypal.

You're not allowed to solicit other payment methods....like you can't put it in your listing or even suggest it, but you ARE allowed to accept money order or check payments. Ebay makes their wording very fuzzy cause they want everyone to gravitate towards paypal (which ebay now owns)....but you ARE allowed to use money orders.

a money order make sure when you send it, to have some kind of tracking. if they say they didn't get it, you are probably out of luck since no one would be able to file a paypal claim, if that makes sense! 13|10|I didnt see any yelling. ;) I always use DC but thanks for mentioning it, it's always best to play it safe. :D|jen_ron|bugsmamma@earthlink.net|20:18:33|08/31/2009|
