10 0|0|What Covers Up Dead Mouse Smell?|Beaglesfly|lmllr77@aol.com|12:10:27|08/07/2009|

It started out in the hallway which connects all the rooms on the first floor -- annoying but at least contained to a small area. Now my bedroom smells absolutely disgusting and some of the other rooms have a faint smell too.

Oh, it's getting unbearable. I think it might be in the wall even because there is no place between the basement ceiling and the 1st floor flooring that it could be hiding. I can't take this for a couple of weeks while it decomposes. Gag!

lauren 1|1|Lauren check under your sofa lol We had one that I guess was chased under there and died couldn't find where the smell|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|12:16:51|08/07/2009|

As that's where the smell started....plus Mugsy showed me a couple of ants in that area where the telephone wire comes out of the wall (haahaa, we've got a telephone from the 1950's hardwired into our wall).

IDK, the smell is so bad in my room now, I'm wondering if there's 2 of them. Oh, I have such a headache from being in here.

lauren 3|1|Not sure if anything will really cover it up but.....|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|13:24:42|08/07/2009|

A couple of things you can try is setting out small cups of vinegar (vinegar helps absorb odors & freshen the air) & then, weather permitting so it's cool outside & not humid, open windows & keep a fan going. The mouse COULD be in a heating/cooling duct (been there, done that & UGH!!) but fortunately, you can now buy air fresheners to attach to your furnace filters. You will have to run the blower on the furnace for it to work tho, & you will want to keep all the windows open. Baking soda is also a good odor absorbant & you can maybe sprinkle some of that in w/your furnace filter if the other "filter fresheners" don't work. For obvious reasons, it's best to try these last 2 ideas if noone's going to be home for several hours. LOL Just make sure to keep all windows open & a floor or ceiling fan going for best air circulation.

That's exactly the suggestions I need....something just to cover up the smell until they decompose past the smelly point. I'm gonna try the vinegar and baking soda ideas. We have radiators, so no ducts here. We have an attic fan that I just ran for a while, and that seemed to help with circulating the air a bit, but it's actually kind of chilly in here today when I run the fan, so I can't keep it on all the time.

& no furnace filters, you can put the baking soda out in small cups too, along w/the vinegar. The vinegar doesn't smell so swell either but I think it would be the lesser of the 2 evils. LOL
When I was younger, we had a couple of mice get into our furnace ducts (grew up in an old house where there were cast iron cool air ducts in the main level floor - easy access for a mouse!). The worst part was it was during winter, & back then, there were no such things as "filter fresheners". OMG! LOL My mom walked around w/a kerchief over her nose & even my dad was gagging. ROFL!! It guaranteed that us kids would NEVER have pet mice or hamsters. LOLOL

lauren 8|3|Gag, we got back from our honeymoon to a dead mouse smell. It croaked in the condensation collector cup in the back of the fridge. I cried - hubby's hand was too big to fit in there. |Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|17:16:21|08/07/2009|
