25 0|0|We had to put our 16yr+ dog to sleep last night...|jsevier|asevier@twlakes.net|06:35:14|08/07/2009|
Posted on Aug-07-09 at 06:35 AM (Eastern) by 206.74.57.20

It's going to be a long day, I've woke up crying already... a little history of Molly, Jack (DH) and I found her while clearing our property back in 95 and she was already around 2 yrs old and badly abused. It's the first pet that I can remember ever having to put down. The kids, well, Molly has been around as long as we have, Thomas was talking in his sleep about her last night, she was his "old girl". I've got to get myself together this morning, I have to go meet Hallie's 3rd grade teacher for registration, and then a looonnngggg day at work and then I have to meet Thomas' kindergarten teacher tonight. Molly has been going down hill for about a year, but she's such a fighter, we didn't have the heart to make the decision for her. I think sometime yesterday morning her back legs went out, and she probably laid in the same spot most of the day, thankfully it was a shady one and it didn't get too hot. It was just time. Oh jeez, I think I'm going to have to take my makeup with me today.

Thanks!
Jessica

I am so sorry for you loss! WE had to put our dear Sami down in May and she was 15 yrs old. It was one of the worst days of my life and it is very hard to get over. Just let the tears flow as it is ok!!!!
I still think of her and cry too but you are so lucky also to have your dog for 16 yrs! You must of given her alot of good care as many do not make it that long & you gave your dog a good home! In time it does get better but the best advice is try to keep busy for the next few days and don't worry about the tears.....that is natural!!! That shows just how much you loved your dog and that you are a very caring person!!!! Hugggs! Wanda 7|1|What a heartbreaker|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|09:39:45|08/07/2009|

It's not easy to lose a 4-legged loved one anymore than losing a 2-legged loved one as they're part of the family too. Hurts just as much. :( It's ok & is normal to grieve & cry for our fuzzy family members so please don't feel you shouldn't. I'm sorry you had to make such a tough decision & I'm sorry for your family's heartache & loss.
Sending ((HUGS)) & prayers. ;)

Well, after I got through the first hour of work this morning, it wasn't too bad, most of the girls were (lovingly) laughing at me when I walked in bawling because they knew I had been to the school to register Hallie for 3rd grade and thought I was having a breakdown because of that. I had them all teary eyed before it was over! I know it will get better. Thomas is grieving with lots of chocolate, and Hallie only had one major breakdown today. DH took them out on the boat tonight to a restaurant for a buffet dinner and had a great time with them while I was at Thomas's Kindergarten parent night. Bailey ( our St Bernard) seems lost without her, so I'm going to give her some TLC before the crew gets back home. Thanks again for all the warm thoughts and prayers!!

Thanks!
Jessica

My heart goes out to you. We also had to put down our 16 year old Cocker Spaniel in December last year. She couldn't move and was passing blood. We rushed her to vet but nothing could be done for her. We sobbed the whole way home and for several days after. And just when we were "under control" we received a sympathy card from the vet! She was a great companion and a big part of our family.

All I can say is give yourself some time. It will get easier. We still miss our little Sadie, but now when we think about her, we remember all the silly and funny things she did.
