9|1|I'm going to brave an attempt on a peach tree. LOL|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|20:11:29|08/07/2009|

If my aunt could grow a lemon tree out of a lemon seed, I'm gonna take a stab at growing a peach tree from a peach pit. ;) I figure I can keep it inside til next spring & then transplant it to outside, IF it develops into anything. LOL My neighbors had a peach tree til just this year when it got some kind of disease. :(
My mom & I split a lug of peaches so this wkend, she's going to show me how to can some. I know how to make/can applesauce & bought some canning jars/lids; I just don't have a pressure cooker, yet.

Think Spring!

You could trying growing a tree from the seed/pit too. :) I figured why not give it a shot & see what happens. If I can try it, anyone can. :)
Am hoping I can get a peach tree to develop out of a peach pit but we'll see. My thumb is usually black & blue, not green. LOL If it doesn't develop, I won't be out anything cuz I already have the potting soil, plant pots, plant food & peaches for the pits, so no money spent on a pre-sprouted tree that may die off later.
McIntosh apples are supposed to be a good type of apple for applesauce so that's what I'm going to use for my sauce. There's a couple types that are best for sauce but I'll have to ask my mom, & write them down so I don't forget. LOL I've made homemade applesauce on the stove several times, which is pretty simple, but this will be only the 2nd time I've tried my hand at canning it. Homemade applesauce is SO yummy tho! (on plain buttered bread, as an ice cream topping, on waffles, toast & even cake. Applesauce can also be a diet-conscious substituted ingredient in some recipes). The 1st time I canned it was many yrs. ago when my son was small. Back then I'd also canned pumpkin but never did dare eat it lest I get botulism. LOL W/my mom coaching me now, I'll feel safer eating the fruits of my labor. Pardon the pun. LOL
