HOW DO I GO ABOUT ASKING OUR FAMILY DOCTOR... I HAVE BEEN SEVERLY DEPRESSED FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS AND I AM SICK OF IT AND I WANNA BE HAPPY AGAIN AND WHEN I AM DOWN WHICH IS 23 HOURS A DAY I EAT.... I NEED HELP WITH THIS SO ANY INFORMATION WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.....AND MY DPRESSION IS ALSO WITH MY SON BE OVERSEAS, OPEN HEART SURGERY AND FINANCIAL.. SO I REALLY KNOW I NEED HELP CAUSE MY FAMILY DESERVES BETTER....TIA

My husband passed away 5 months ago yesterday from cancer. I tried not to take any medication but the depression was so bad I really had no choice. I have been taking 20mg of Prozac (actually a generic form) for a little over a month. It is a small dosage but it has made a world of difference. Since it is a generic form it only costs $4.00 for 30 days without needing to use my insurance!! I am on it for 3 months then I go back to the doctor to be re-evaluated.
Not only have I not gained weight - I have lost weight (a side effect on the literature with the medication lists loss of appetite). I'm not sure if I have lost weight because of the medication or because of the stress of losing my husband. Probably both....

I'm on Xanax - .25mg four times a day but I don't see much improvement :(

i am on zoloft 100 mg. Labled postpartum depression but my dad had a sudden heart attack when my son was just 15 days old so it could just be the mix. I know how hard it is to ask for help. If I didn't prev work w/my ob-gyn and didn't have the means to just call her directly or e-mail her i am not sure how long i would have gone b4 getting help.
It wasn't an unhappy issue though. Mine was more of an anxiety issue along w/feeling like people were always yelling at me... oh and my mind just kept wondering to my dad and i felt no control over my thoughts or emotions.
i started out on only 50 mg but needed a bit more - i am now on 100mg and xanax as needed. this has really been a god send to me! I must warn though.. i had the side effects of headaches and nausea for the fist 2 weeks.
no weight gain here but then again i had just had my baby.
