22 0|0|CPR Suggestions for A Flat Lined Washer ??|Beaglesfly|lmllr77@aol.com|20:55:59|08/01/2009|

Washing machine died, and I was wondering if anyone has any tricks or advice on it or if it's gone to washer heaven. It seems completely dead, but it's only about 8 years old, so I don't know.

I checked the fuse box, but that's not the problem. I unplugged it and plugged it in another plug and no luck there either. I also repositioned the wet clothes to see if maybe it was off balance (it did have a big fat pillow in the load), but that didn't help.

lauren 1|1|So, it's just doing nothing? Did it fill and then stop? I had that happen once and it was the advancer thingy, wouldnt go from one part of the cycle to the next without me manually turning the knob (from wash, to spin, to rinse, to spin).|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:58:25|08/01/2009|

It didn't spin or anything - the tub is still filled with water. I tried advancing it and it makes no noise or anything (like the little hum it makes before it goes into spin). If I turn the dial to fill the tank, it doesn't start putting water in or anything.

It just seems completely dead.

lauren 3|3|Yeah, that sounds like what happened to mine...I could get it to spin and empty a couple times doing it manually, but after that, kaput!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|22:05:51|08/01/2009|

Hey Joy,

How did you get it to spin manually? I've got a tub full of water and need to get the clothes out without all that water on them.

lauren 5|2|I had manually advanced it to the spin marker on the cycle....but like I said that only worked a few times, then nuttin.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:50:46|08/02/2009|

It makes a slight humming noise sometimes for a couple of seconds and then nothing.

lauren 9|5|Uhoh, when mine got to that point, I had to call the repair guy...ended up buying a new reasonably-priced washer, as the repair for the advancer thingy and labor would have been about $200...I got a new washer for about $325 on sale.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|17:33:42|08/02/2009|

Yesterday, it actually agitated when I turned it on. But that was it....nothing else. I manually advanced it to spin and it didn't do anything.

Guess I need to just resign myself to the fact that it's dead. What a cheap piece of junk - only lasted like 8 years.

It is just 2 1/2 years old and it has started leaking on the super setting. Also, the washer drum seem loose.

I didn't buy a service agreement as I didn't think I would need one. My dh has always been able to fix washers/dryers before but he can't figure this one out.

I thought maybe it might be covered under the originally GE warranty but GE would not give any real help over the phone and said a technician would have to come out for a service call to determine. That is $75. Then they charge an hourly fee plus parts. Gosh, this washer was not a cheap unit - around $500+. I just don't know if this would be throwing good money after bad.

Will not buy a GE again. There seems to be problems with them with other applicances as well.

As someone previously said, it seems all this stuff is made to throw away. 18|2|We have a GE and we had the service contract since we paid big bucks for it we figured if anything should go wrong the repair bills would be huge so we covered ourselves The plan just ran out and we are renewing it only $69 +|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|11:39:27|08/03/2009|

for a year well worth it The only thing we don't like about it is the smell it gets insdie if you leave the door close so we buy the deginker and clean around the seal we did have the problem of it shaking on the floor here but we fixed that and all is well 19|1|I found a site that was helpful....|sunriver|lithiasalt@cheerful.com|12:08:48|08/03/2009|

http://www.fixya.com/support/t662181-kenmore_top_load_washer_wont_stop
The link will take you right to my problem but there is a search box and if you type in the brand and everything maybe it will direct you as well? It looks like our hot water spout may be causing our problem. I can turn on the cold and it works, but if I turn on the hot I have to be ready and waiting with towels.

So for the time being I am keeping both spouts all the way turned off as a matter of precaution and then when I do a load I will just use cold.

Anyway that site was easy to understand which was not true for all of the many "fix it" sites I looked at yesterday. HTH. V. 20|2|Wow, cool site, Vanessa! Thanks for sharing...you never know when any one of us might need to troubleshoot a problem :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|12:19:49|08/03/2009|

I typed in my problem and they immediately had a possible solution. Apparently lots of people have had the same problem with the GE washers. This site offered a fix.

Do you know that the GE Answer Line would not help at all? They said they do not troubleshoot anything.

I will definitely buy an extended warranty on the next one I buy. I have one on my refrigerator but just didn't think I needed it on the washer/dryer. Mine is a top load.
