I am located just outside of Reading, PA. I got a postcard in the mail from the savage Jeep, Crysler Dealer. It had a check for $4,000.00 good towards the purchase of any NEW car valued at $12,000.00 or higher. It stated that you could also bring your Clunker & get up to $4,500 for it. Total credits = $8,500.00. So I called someone to borrow about 4,000.00 thinking I was going to get a brand new car. Then they say My CAR DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE KLUNKER because it gets 21 mpg combined highway & street miles. I freaked, told them they were crazy. There's no way I get 21mpg. I drive to college & home everyday & I have to put $10.00 in gas in the car. I only live 14 miles from the college. The next day I have to get gas again. I am so fed up!!! SO UNLESS your car gets less than 18 mpg combined, don't even bother going. You can go on www.kelleybluebook.com to see what mileage you get & if your car qualifies. AND BY THE WAY, if you do go & do this be prepared to sign a statement stating that if the government runs out of money before your paperwork gets processed, the deal is off. It takes approx 5 hours of paperwork for each car to get processed & the gov't website keeps crashing. And if your deal is recinded, YOUR CAR WILL ALREADY BE SCRAPPED!!! Don't say I DID'NT WARN YOU!!! Shirley. 8|1|My husband just turned in his 97 F150 with 140,000 miles on it....we got a 2009 Dodge Caliber. Dodge had $4500 in rebates on the car, plus he got $3500 for his truck.....we paid half price for the vehicle after negotiations on the sticker price. That was Monday and we havent had any ominous calls about giving the car back or owing the $3500. I do know that there isnt a lot of inventory to choose from as the dealers arent carrying alot of cars these days....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|19:48:10|07/31/2009|

i heard it on cnn and fox news the problem is that most people dont read the terms of agreement they just sign it. they showed excatly what it said after you clicked i agree.this is not fearmongering, and how can you say its baseless? when you dont know all the facts. if you think its baseless why dont you go on there and click i sgree.

13|4|I can't have read your post correctly. You said that Fox news showed that if you agree to the terms of the cash-for-clunker deal, then the government owns your computer and can follow anything you put on it.,as well as your phone system|suezz|clearys@comcast.net|10:40:10|08/01/2009|

... really believe that the government needs your PERMISSION to monitor your computer and phone use? Hmmm, I don't think so.

If they aren't doing it it's probably because of lack of resources to do the monitoring. All the technology is, and has been, in place.... for years.

There are no secrets. There is no way to maintain a secret. We are technologically way beyond that!

When you sign up part of the agreement is they can monitor your pc not just your internet visiting but your entire pc at any time they like for what they deem 'just' cause. It's one of the reasons dh said we'll never get comcast for our internet. He actually sat and read the entire fine print for verizon to be sure they didn't do the same.

All paperwork was done at the car dealer, not over the computer. And by clicking on "I Agree" and then "Continue", they are accessing by remote access?? They'll be accessing the car dealers' computers, not mine.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:10:22|08/01/2009|

edited because my post didn't show up.

and those who purchased their new cars between July 1, and July 26th who had to submit their forms online from their homes or their work places? Those are the people who should be worried. VERY worried. I, for one, do not wish to devulge ANY information held within my computer's hard drive or networking system to ANY foriegn bodies of any sort. KWIM?

+++ Coupon Savings For 2009 So Far $ 6,423.18 +++ 23|7|I wasnt even aware you COULD prequalify from home....there was really no need to do that, IMHO....there was nothing to take to the dealers to prove we qualified, they did the calculations on the puter themselves. I'm just saying the way we went about it (didnt know there was another way), we arent subject to that agreement. So, if anyone would be interested in doing this without this 'catch', I'd recommend to do it the way we did....so, my experience can actually be of help to someone :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|18:13:27|08/01/2009|
