I got pictures but can't believe they were out there in broad daylight as they usually only come out at night. Wow!!

ETA: After I got the pics, I hurried up & shut my garage door. LOL The little ones ran cuz of the noise but the mother stayed put nibbling away at the birdfood, etc. that I'd tossed out for the birds. The little ones came back shortly after I'd shut the door & then they all went over & under my neighbor's utility shed.
I'll be casing the outdoors good before I let my little dog out for potty cuz a mother coon gets real NASTY when she has little ones. :(

If you have racoons coming out in the daylight there is something VERY wrong! Possibly rabies. You need to call animal control.....cute as they may seem. 2|2|Yes, be very careful...|Sharon|s_forshee@hotmail.com|20:39:33|07/26/2009|

Several years ago, as I was getting in the car in the garage, just a few feet away there was a raccoon sitting on top of the garbage can sitting very still and eyes glazed over. I knew he had rabies and called animal patrol. Getting the raccoon in the cage was a huge hassle. I would call animal patrol if it's still in your yard. The dispatcher said it's not common but it's not entirely unheard of either for coons to be out in daylight, but to definitely keep an eye out for strange behavior if they return, & to make sure to keep watch for our pets. If they return & seem to be acting strange or are foaming, I'm to call back immediately. I said I was so surprised to see them that the only thing I really noticed was when I shut my garage door (thank God for automatic doors!), the noise of it coming down did frighten the little ones but the mother didn't budge, as if she didn't even hear it.
My neighbors just came home a little bit ago so I let them know the coons went under their shed, & may still be there.
Since there's acres of fields across from our backyards, I'm hoping the coons will go in that direction, & keep going. LOL I love seeing wildlife & all but just prefer it be under more normal circumstances.

The mother would bring out the little ones (half grown) about 6 or 7 in the evening. My DH would sit outside on a lawn chair and throw dry dog food at them. They were so cute! I have pictures of them on my front porch taken from inside of the house. But then, the mother got used to him feeding the bunch and expected it every time we went out the door. It got so bad that we had to leave a stick, rake, shovel, outside of our door if we left for the evening, to protect ourselves on the way to the car in the driveway. The mother acted very mean and growled at us.

Then they disappeared and we haven't seen them since.

So, be very careful.

but get the impression the OP is not. Even so there is NO WAY I would want a family of 'coons living nearby. They are mean little buggers and will tear up a dog or whatever. The county next to us now has an outbreak of rabies in racoons. Over 30 diseased racoons have been found with rabies. Several dogs, without their current rabies shots, that had contact with these racoons have also been put down. One of these racoons showed up behind home plate at a kids softball game.
OP you really do need to get these racoons out of your area! They are wild animals and belong in the woods. 7|5|we had a mother coon and 3 babies|karrkamper|jdouglas4@mchsi.com|15:22:27|07/27/2009|

earlier this summer one hot day she moved them from a tree down to sewer and she went right across our yard and neighbors yard and we all had young kids outside but that didn't seem to bother her at all then that night she moved them back to tree be darned if next day she didn't move them again
found out another neighbor down the street had been feeding mom but once some neighbors told her to quite feeding it it got little mean and was hissing at people so they come set a trap in sewer and caught them
kept us busy watching them for af ew days anyway vickie 8|6|MY FRIENDLY RACOON ALWAYS COMES OUT IN THE DAYTIME...HE HAS BEEN COMING FOR OVER 4 YEARS SO NOT TRUE THAT THEY ONLY COME OUT IN THE DAYTIME IF THEY ARE RABIED...AND EVERY YEAR HE BRINGS THE BABIES OUT WITH HIM/HER JUST ADORABLE|JOYHAPPYONE|DAIDOLA5@AOL.COM|19:45:48|07/27/2009|
