12 0|0|Catered a wedding last night(more)|dlpavitt|dlpavitt@att.net|06:13:28|07/26/2009|

The bride and groom elected to have a appitizer/cocktail hour, for the whole wedding. They went fancy, and higher end, sushi, ect... But only ordered one piece per person, for each item. Despite, the catering managers plea, for them to order more. So we were scrambling to put together, more food, to keep the hungry guests happy.

The groom in his 50's, was mad, that, we didn't have extra on hand. But a lot of items, like sushi are top dollar, and you can't freeze, if you do not use, so why would we have extra?

All seemed like poor judgement on the couples behalf. I would think if you are going with out a DINNER. YOu would go extra heavy, on the finger food.

It was a fustrating night. Donna

I helped cater a wedding once and it was a family member of mine and she wanted to do a dinner but didnt want to prepare extra and she ran out of food we had guest waiting while we had to go to the store and buy more food to make it was very embarassing for the bride/groom but it was there choice not do extra food. I know for my wedding I did the food for that and I made wayyy more then what I needed but I wanted everyone to eat what they wanted and till they were full.

I dont understand why people wont listen to people that know about how much food your going to need and such.

sorry you had a bad night but seriously one piece of food per person that is a bit ridiculous if you ask me. Did they expect you to monitor what everyone was taking and slap there hand if they were going to take more then 1 thats just crazy

hope you have a better day today

Kathy 2|2|A cocktail hour for the entire reception? How long was the reception and at what time? If it was over dinner time, of course the guests would be hungry! That couple should have listened to you, Donna....afterall, when someone hires a caterer, they are not just paying for the food and service, they are paying for the expertise!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|08:13:14|07/26/2009|

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.
--Thomas Jefferson-- 3|1|You said "one piece per person per item" ...some people read this wrong thinking there was just one piece per person. Even so, there was a serious lack of food and the groom was mad?? He dared be mad when he cheaped out ??|suezz|clearys@comcast.net|08:47:34|07/26/2009|

Thanks 4|2|No, I saw the one per person per item....but even if there was say, 7 different items offered, and let's say someone only likes 3 of those offered items...and if this was 'replacing' dinner...then that person might have eaten 3-4 of each of those three items they liked over the course of the evening. But yes, the groom 'cheaped out' and wanted to blame the caterers for the lack of food for his guests...if I was that bride I would have rethought the marriage knowing I was marrying such a stingy stodger! I thought the same thing, One piece per person, per item, was ridiculous, for a 7 hour reception,

We did order extra, on some of the basic frozen items they ordered(as a safety), but like I said, you just do not make extra sushi(which we hand roll) etc.... just in case.

Of course, the groom did ask us to make more food, and had to be charged for all of the extras anyway.

Wondering, were the bride was when all of these decisions, were being made. LOL.... Donna

Thanks for looking, Donna 6|2|That is interesting, huh? Geez, I guess we know who wears the pants in that couple, lolol. Yeah, they should have just had a dinner reception instead of appetizers only...I bet the guests stepped out here and there and made a McDonald's run! My sister in law decided to have crackers, cheese, veggies etc what you might expect as appetizers. The limo driver got lost and ended up having the married couple show up almost an hour behind everyone else. Then my sister in law had a table for just kids. Well the adults all thought the kid food was great so they all went there and it left little for the kids. It was so frustrating. My sister in law had gone to chick fila and gotten two nugget trays for the kiddos adn the pig adults would eat them. Ticked me off she even had the table labeled KIDS ONLY.

my sister in law ordered so little food that after the wedding party it was almost out, some of the guys would take several pieces and she refused to order more just kept saying it was only suppose to be a snack,we even offered to pay for more food buty she wouoldn't do it, the caters brought more ice water but that was it so we went out in the hall and found some vending machines her next wedding was much better my niece did the planning for that one Linda 10|1|I do wedding planning and a caterer once brought extra food for 50|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|15:45:02|07/26/2009|

and charged the bride 5,000 EXTRA so I get a bit of cheapness lol

when they went out of business a few years later I know exactly why, they had the nerve to send me a card asking if I wanted to buy their business, being stupid, greedy or a crook always catches up to you in the end. I never told anyone about it (I was embarassed that I forgot to get her to sign the contract stating a final amount, she only signed the preliminary paperwork which I realized when we got the bill, thank G-d they charged it to her parents card (they had given me free reign and the card to use until we were done, and I got it done beautifully for about 20,000 including this bit of business).

But word does go out, I am sure I was not the only one they pulled this trick on, and it bit them in the azz in the end. The spread was beautiful, it was a high end wedding and I did the planning as a gift - she was a roommate - wealthy family, I should have chatged, I know lol)

HIgh end food, apps, breads, wines, open bar, liquor, in an estate in one of the historic parks right outside boston, I got the site for $200, and the wedding was in Trinity Church in Copley Squarew in Boston, this was like a TV production, phones, walkie talkies, society pages, we had another friend do the flowers and I made sure she got paid fairly (she did the flowers for my wedding at cost) We paid security, a nice live band, about 150 people for about 8 hours it was awesome, nothing like my poor little wedding at all Lol. 11|1|My whole wedding only cost $600 food for 200 plus people and|tollman62|thebossatnight@yahoo.com|16:44:23|07/26/2009|

a HUGE variety of trays for her party. We did the food and the set-up and then left, they didn't want to pay for a server. I kept telling her that for the amount of people she had, she ordered too many different types of food and not enough of any 1 thing. I brought over my boss to help me but she wouldn't hear of it, she wanted what she wanted so we gave her exactly what she wanted. You cannot believe the verbal abuse I took from her when she returned the next day to give us back the chafing dishes, etc. She ran out of food! Duh? I told her that repeatedly, at a buffet, people take a little of EVERYTHING! 1 tray of a chicken dish that feeds a normal 16-20 is NOT going to make it for 70 people! So it was MY fault!! We don't like to oversell or undersell.
