9 0|0|College stock up list - any suggestions?|katytibbs|karenjtibbals@yahoo.com|07:38:33|07/21/2009|

My only son will be entering college as a freshman in less than a month and I am realizing that I need to send him with a stockpile. People who don't coupon say, why bother, its not worth it, there are stores there. And I have set a limit on how much money I will give him, so its not on me if he pays full price for stuff. BUT, I hate the idea. So I am starting to make sure I have a stockpile of the stuff he will need the most. (We are going to parents weekend in Oct so I have additional time)

Here's my beginning list. I'd appreciate any suggestions from those of you who have kids in college. What am I forgetting?

Batteries (he says AAA is what he may need)
Body Wash
Toothpaste (have lots)
Shampoo (have lots but not his favorite)
Conditioner
Razor & Blades (have lots!)
Shave cream (have lots!)
Acne Medication
Axe or Tag
Tissues
Allergy Medication

I was trying to think back to my college years... many years ago... I lived in a boarding house most of college and we all tried to share but here are a few things that I think you could stockpile instead of him paying top dollar:

Laundry supplies (detergent, softener if he will use it ha ha) + quarters
Paper plates, plastic cups and utensils, napkins etc for pizza nights

If he will have a microwave, perhaps some Easy Mac?? they didn't have these when I was in college but they would be a great fast snack while cramming for exams... and no clean up! Micro popcorn, too, is a great way to get everyone together... people all down his hall will stop by if they smell it; a great way to meet people

If he will have a coffeepot, this was a biggee in our kitchen, as no one ever wanted to buy a can of coffee... if he is a coffee drinker, coffee, creamer, sugar in a sealed container would be great for him to have in his room to save money over running to a cofee shop or convenience store when he is studying.

Hope those few ideas help!

Underarm deodorant, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap (if needed. LOL), bar soap, those Hamburger Helper microwave meals would maybe also come in handy for a quick meal, bottles of juice, hot dogs (for the freezer), pens/pencils, white-out, printer paper (if he'll be needing to print out his work), printer ink (?), folders, bath/hand towels & washcloths, maybe a phone card or 2 ?

think of the everyday things you use. that is what I did when I sent my kids off

depends on if they are in a dorm, apartment , have a meal plan. it will make a difference on items he needs.

The rest depends on if he will have access to a kitchen / microwave and maybe a little fridge in his room??
So much depends on what kind of living quarters he will have.

Regardless he will need:
laundry supplies (Tide or whatever (and those new Purex 3-in-1 might be good for this to avoid lugging bottles), fabric softener, etc)

Shampoo
Conditioner
Deodorant
toothpaste
toothbrushes
body washes
soap
male fragrance items
possibly acne cream
razors/shave gels

and some kind of room deodorizers (automatic or plug ins are best)

if he has microwave and fridge/freezer
Microwave popcorn is a must
DRINKS!!! possibly singles to mix with water as well
if he drinks soda-- the single prices in machine will run him through money WAAAYYY too quickly
Pizza rolls?
Single meals/snacks
some quick/easy cleaning supplies (Clorox wipes, pledge dusters, etc)

Thanks everyone. He will have a fridge in his room, microwave down the hall (microwave popcorn is a great idea), but he is allergic to dairy so no packaged microwave foods.

Drinks are a great idea, but I am not sure how much he will let me give him. He is in a triple so there is limited room.

They have a new system called ESuds that charges your college account for laundry, so he won't need quarters.
