My husband and I got rid of all the tvs about 6 months ago and it is so nice and peaceful in our home now. I was hesitant at first, thinking my daughter would miss it but we talk so much more now, best thing we ever did. Our cable bill is cut in half, just the internet on it now and we have wonderful times as a family, just talking and laughing at the kitchen table.
I wondered if anyone else here did the same? 1|1|I Have thought about doing it but havent yet|crazymomx2|crazymomx3girls@hotmail.com|15:43:06|07/20/2009|

used to have 3, now down to 1 and just cable, we hardly watch TV anymore. I only watch one soap opera. My husband only watches the old movies from the 50's he puts on through the computer and 13 year old daughter doesn't miss it at all, now reading books for hours everyday. Get our main news through the internet mostly. It's amazing how we don't miss it, except I still have to watch All My Children soap-LOL!! Hubby & I got tired of the liberal MSM with their propaganda news and lies, so we do a lot more book reading though!! 5|2|we get our news online too|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|00:15:47|07/22/2009|

but we don't like MSM either, I go to whatreallyhappened.com for my news and foreign news outlets, it all needs to be weeded out though, everyone has an agenda. Lot more I could say about the media propaganda and cycle of lies but I shouldn't on a public forum. Glad to hear you don't like the MSM either. :) 3|1|No TV in our house at all mon-thursday and off by 6 on Sunday|blessedx5|I_am_blessedx5@yahoo.com|14:44:36|07/21/2009|

Been doing this for seven years. We all talk all the time and play lots of board games..they even make up games.....wish my mom had done this when I was little....When the weekend comes around the tv often still says off...they actually look in the tv guide and pick what they will watch....not sitting on the couch and just flipping through....I luv it! (no video games, ipods, or anything else mon-thursday either) 4|1|I've never had a TV as an adult|mfrs|mfrs.sv.ca@gmail.com|17:03:31|07/21/2009|

I occasionally had housemates with tv's but only used it for videos. Really good programming ('The Wire') will come out on DVD eventually.

It's something of an alternative lifestyle. 6|1|glad to hear others are out there too!|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|00:18:22|07/22/2009|

Thanks all for the comments! So nice to hear that others have turned off/thrown out the tv, isn't life much nicer? We read a lot more now, my husband and I finally spent the money on a standard, straight text KJV bible and we have been studying that daily. Compared to that boob tube, the bible is far more exciting for us and I feel good about not having the filth coming into my home anymore with the TV. 7|1|I almost said it...|destiny|destinyroger@yahoo.com|09:53:37|07/22/2009|

The other day we couldn't get a picture on our tv in the living rm... that's when the thought crossed my mind that it might actually be nice not to have one at all! I mean, I could get SO much else done around here instead! I tend to glue myself to the tv at night.. Instead, I could be reading or doing crafts or SLEEPING! I don't have a good relationship with my husband though so I can't include him in that... BUT... all we had to do was turn it off and turn it back on and THEN the picture was fine... I enjoy reality tv, very seldom watch sitcoms or hour drama shows.. I love all the news channels and things like "Dancing With The Stars", Antique Road Show, the travel channel and fine living channel... When the kids were babies, we didn't have tv for several years because we didn't want them badly influenced and thought tv was evil. But.. my husband likes to watch his sports and old westerns so eventually, we got a small one, then a big one, THEN a bigger one....

It used to soothe me when I had so much pain I thought it helped me sleep, now I just take more pills lol

Ever since the op, I feel like they let loose something in my body like pain rays, ROFL, just unexplainable and constant and kind of urgent feeling all of the time. I am not serious but can having a procedure cause pain in joints that is constant? I am tired and unfocused, we went to farmers market (we are not only without TV we are trying to live greener by buying local (not cheaper though) and at the farmer's market someone took my money out of my hand and I couldn't remember if it was the guy I was buying the fruit from or not and I have never been this spaced in my life. I felt SO frustrated we are NOT going back there (the prices are almost as high as the store but the produce is 1000 times fresher OMG it actually tastes good).

Trying to eat healthier and lose weight too but the pain, oh, the pain!!!
