We are thinking about pawning my wedding ring. Does anybody know how this works, how much you get (probably not much, I know)? Do you get a percentage of how much you paid originally for the item?

My mom found the receipt in the house and went to get it. The pawn shop wanted $600 for it.

regardless of what you paid. They don't care what you paid for it, they want to buy it as low as they can.

If it is real gold, you may get a decent price for the gold weight right now.

Check more than one place, if you get an offer you think is ok, you may want to tell them you want to try somewhere else and start to leave, many will up the offer before you get out the door. I had a friend that went from $250 to $400 in the time it took her to get to the front door!!

borrow money on valuables IF YOU WANT THEM BACK. You borrow the money, then make payments to the pawn shop to get those valuable back. This is really convenient for many people, especially with items they do not use very often. My parents owned what once was the largest pawn shop in Arkansas, back in the 1980s. The local people would come in and pawn their hunting rifles and shotguns -- make payments on them all year -- then pull them out of pawn for hunting season. LOL

Pawn shops have to make money as well. Yes, if you want to SELL your valuables, you should expect to see them on the pawn shop shelf the next time you are in the store. My parents would pawn items for as long as the people paid the interest payments. If people didn't come in to make a payment each month...after 30 days, the items could legally be taken off pawn and potentially sold to a customer. However, my parents would always hold people's merchandise for a full 60 days before removing the items from pawn and selling them.

Pawn shops are good places to look for a used car. Credit checks are usually not done, credit terms are lax compared to dealerships and car lots. A person can pick up some good deals in a pawn shop. Drive around town and stop at the pawn shops closest to the "wealthy" part of town. Rich people will pawn stuff as well, believe it or not.
