I started my application for SSD online and before i had even finished filing it out i received a phone call from the social security office telling me that i was denied because i did not work enough during a certain time period and she asked me if i was planing on filing for SSI. I dont know what the difference is between the two and would be greatful if anyone one could explain them to me. Also how can you get denied without ever finishing your application or ever being asked to see a doctor or anything this just bewilders me

OK.... SSI is just based on your income level and how many people live in the home with you.
SSDI is disability...and you must have enough qualified periods of employment to be eligible for it.

Disability actually pays on BOTH counts--but I get the impression the qualifications are different.

Copy paste from Social Security website:
Social Security pays disability benefits under two programs:

* Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for insured workers, their disabled surviving spouses and children (disabled before age 22) of disabled, retired or deceased workers.
* Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for people with little or no income and resources.

Here's a link to their website that might help:

Hope that helps. 2|2|Thanks Amy :)|rainj|jmrains@centurytel.net|16:12:29|07/09/2009|
