I'm trying to start my husband's computer and he has it locked with a password. When I try to reset the password, it tells me I need to insert a floppy disk or a USB drive. Anyone know why it would be asking me to do this and what I can do to get around it? BTW, there is no floppy disk drive even to put a disk into.....and I'm at work and I don't have a flash drive handy.

It's Windows vista.

I have a wireless network and I'm the owner of the network -- can I reset his password from my computer once I get home? Is there any way to get around it right now?

I've got a bored 6 year old with me and I need some help!

That should help you bypass the password requirement.

Weird thing is, I had shut it down and then when I started it yesterday, it didn't ask me for this password. I shut it down at the end of the day yesterday and today it's asking me for that dang password.

He just did it recently for a friend of mine. She had XP but it might work w/Vista....

I found a way to bypass it, but again, I need a flash drive in order to do it (save stuff to the drive from my regular computer and then insert the flash drive into the other computer)....and I don't have a flash drive with me.

Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ++ keys twice and it’ll show Classic Login box. Now type “Administrator” (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.

Now you can reset your account password from “Control Panel -> User Accounts”.

Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

I don't know what happened to it, but when I came back to it, the screen was black. I unplugged it and popped the battery out and it still won't start. Is this safe mode? Never had to deal with that before.

I should have just run home on my lunch and gotten the flash drive or even my computer.

lauren 9|2|no that is not safe mode. sounds like a power failure of some sort.|pussecat|pu55ecat@aol.com|12:29:01|07/08/2009|
