There's a white squirrel that's been a regular out here since early spring but I hadn't seen her all week so I'd been bummed & worried something happened to her. She showed up this morning! :) I know it sounds silly but she's gotten so used to me that she comes right over to me wanting her "specialty" smorgasboard dish of pnuts in the shell, sunflower seeds, pistacchios in the shell, roasted unshelled pnuts & a fruit/nut mix. LOL I put a little of each in a small, disposable container so she looks for it now. ;)
Another white squirrel showed up a few days ago but I knew it wasn't my Nutsie cuz this 2nd one is a cleaner white & doesn't have the bot-fly scar on it's head. Nutsie has some pink in her fur & the white isn't as clean-looking. She also had a bot-fly in her head above her right eye that finally developed enough to emerge a couple wks. ago so she now has a small hole where the bot-fly came out. When I hadn't seen her all week, I was worried that she either got hit by a car somewhere, snatched up by the hawk I seen in the backyard last week or got an infection in that bot-fly hole. What I think happened tho is that she had babies cuz she's missing some of her fur & the mother squirrels use that to soften their nest in preparation for the birth. Plus, that other white squirrel showing up a few days ago may very well be her mate. The females boot the males out of the nest when the babies are born & raise the babies themselves.
Silly as it sounds, I'm happy to have my Nutsie back. :)

As long as they're not the red squirrels cuz those can be a real nuisance getting into things. :-p The gray ones here don't bother or get into anything, even if I have my garage door open. I maybe find an occasional pnut stashed in there somewhere but I think the worst any of them have done is get the lid off my gal. ice cream pail (holding birdfood), & it wasn't even chewed! Haven't figured that one out yet. LOL

George is a very large ground hog that lives under our shed. Last summer he showed up and enjoyed the peaches as they fell from the tree. it was fun to watch him pick up the peaches, stand tall & enjoy. He was so cute. We didnt seem him for awhile until a few weeks ago when the weather was warmer. her is enjoying the clover in the yard right now, but I see him wander over to the peach tree (looks like he is sniffing) waiting for the peaches.

we also have a chippy who brings a fresh mushroom to our front step each morning and nibbles on it throughout the day. he is making a mess though! 11|1|Decided to name the other white squirrel Wally (as in walnut). LOL|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|21:15:57|07/06/2009|

He's a bit skittish yet but I'm sure he'll eventually get used to me too. Have a few small gray ones too so they must be yearlings. Most are still skittish but Chipper is getting pretty tame. I think he might be one of Nutsie's early spring litters cuz altho squirrels are very territorial (especially when they have little ones) she shares her special dish w/him yet growls &/or chases all the others away.
I went thru a half a dozen cobs of corn on Sat. w/them so not sure what's up that they were being such little piggies. That was in addition to sunflower seeds & pnuts in the shell. Usually only go thru no more than a couple cobs or so a day despite as many as there are. Hmmm.....

than jingle, jangle, jingle! Seriously, I do have a couple of squirrels that I can watch from my dining room windows. They are so cute as they stand on their back two feet while munching on something they found in the grass. LOL

Now rabbits...I got rabbits! Lots of little, cute, soft, white-tailed, shiny-eyed bunny rabbits. And they are pretty tame...and will not run away when I walk outside on the sidewalk or walk to my vehicle. They are fun to watch as well.

I just hope my furry little yard friends keep one eye on the sky. There is also a Mr. and Mrs. Hawk that glides over the treetops around here, looking for something soft and furry to eat. My DH feeds the squirrels so well, they are twice the size as other squirrels blocks over....he sees a squirrel one day uptown and says "Oh, he's so little"....I told him, "No, dear...that is a normal squirrel, 'your' squirrels on our block are overfed!" We have one squirrel he named Arnold because, seriously, the dude looks pumped! ROFL
